He said eastern bloc, not eastern U.S. I.E. a communist city from, say, Ukraine or Russia.

LOL Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are not my favorite places, but I would prefer them to Bulgaria.

Not sure what you mean there. Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are two beautiful and underrated American cities. I'd take it if Austin gets compared in some way to either of those cities.

... _Matt (the one who posted the pictures) said that in the pictures he took the weather made Austin look like an eastern bloc city. Kevin then said _Matt was right, that they did look like Pittsburgh or Cincinnati (which are beautiful cities). The problem was that Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are not eastern bloc cities, because they're in the United States. So I simply pointed that out.

LOL. No, I think he meant it in a good way. Eastern European cities are invariably located in beautiful areas, and I'm pretty sure it was a reference to the hills and the weather not the buildings.

Man, everyone has been antsy on the forums lately. Matt can correct me if I am wrong, but I took it as the grey overcast style and dreary look combined with construction and seaholm/energy control and the rolling forested hills made it look like an eastern bloc country which I think is accurate based on that image.

Also, Pittsburgh is a gorgeous city and Austin being compared to it isn't a bad thing at all.

I agree! I think eastern bloc scenery is often beautiful. Pittsburgh is one of the few places I'd live, just as an aside.

My bad. I saw the hills and "eastern" and my mind went straight to those two cities.

Thanks for clearing that up Yoda. I thought I was going to be lynched for a second there.

The flat grey light caused advertisements, signs, and building accouterments blend into the background, so it almost appeared soviet. It an architecturally open-minded Soviet city, I'll grant you.

Here's a photo of Kiev skyline, capital of Ukraine. Compare to this.

Just to assuage any concern, I love our skyline, especially framed with the hills to the west.

Just so everyone knows... if I ever sound rude over these forums, its very likely I'm being facetious. I almost never take anything seriously on these forums, and never do I mean to insult anybody.

BUT IF YOU EVER DARE SAY SHIT ABOUT AUSTIN AGAIN, I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN!!!!!

jk

Austin has come a long ways, believe I read that the city uses less water now than it did in 2000, even with all of the additional people. However, with this drought, more of the suburbs need to be more restrictive on water use. It took Cedar Park until last year to implement 2 days a week watering when Austin has been on 1 a while. Not sure what Round Rock's current restrictions are though. We have made sure to plant all natives or non-invasive adapteds that can handle watering once a week or less in the summer. It is going to take years of above average rain to get us back up to where we were.

The drought will break someday. Then people will complain about how it's always raining.
