Land swap proposal addresses needs of city and developer

A developer has negotiated an unusual partnership with the city to swap lots in return for building social housing downtown.

In a pitch that neither side has rushed out to advertise widely, Brenhill Development proposed trading its $2-million lot on one side of Helmcken Street in Vancouver’s Downtown South for a larger city lot across the road for $9.5-million.

Condo-flooding man ordered out of Canada

Canada Immigration has ordered a Mexican citizen charged with flooding a Yaletown condo tower out of the country because of fear he will require “excessive” medical services.

Salvador Villarreal Gomez, 24, has already racked up a $65,000 bill for a three-week stay in psychiatric care, his hearing before the Immigration and Refugee Board heard this week.

Do we know where the Old Navy entrance will be? (i.e. will the bottom of the escalators be at the doorway shown, or in the background?) - I'm hoping it's not on the corner (but having it through the heritage facade isn't so great either).

No one created one, probably pointless at this time as it's nearing the stage where there isn't much progress to watch, besides there have only been one or two photo sets since construction started.

Thanks for the photo. It would be neat if the angled glass curtain walls would flare out meet the awning in a manner similar to the Hastings Street base of the MNP tower. None the less, the project is coming along well and strikes me as well scaled for the intersection and the transition to the Granville strip.

Think we might see class warfare flare up even more in the dtes. Perhaps they are counting on making a lot of noise just before the election in hopes that the incoming party will provide the funding they are hoping for.
There have been too many recent incidents to just be coincidence, a hunger strike just started on Friday hoping to stop the Sequel138 development. Seems like a loosely co-ordinated attempt to impede so called gentrification.

As far the relocated United we Can, I don't think it's been offically announced where they are moving to, the rumour is that they we be moving to a city owned industrial property on the Southern edge of the dtes.

The renderings did have an angled element meeting the awning, but the as-built seems to diverge from the rendering - at the corner - so those may have changed.

It will definitely aid in cleaning up that block. Seems to be a perpetual "flea market" of sorts.
