Yeah, there were workers at the new Citadel Hotel today when I walked past earlier. Guess they're in a hurry to get it done!

Wow, comparing the second and fourth photos really shows how much of an improvement this is to the area. I knew that big open parking lot was bad before but that really puts it in perspective.

Yeah Really, I love how this is right up on the sidewalk now. The building will seem so much more impressive from street level.

It is clearly too tall. I demand public input.

The difference this redevelopment's already making really is remarkable! It gives me some measure of hope for the future potential of other sites currently bound up in car-oriented configurations.

Looking good, lets have every building built out to the street and taller than 4 stories.

The one thing I'm disappointed about with the building on the corner is the street interface. It could have been better...but when I think overall; I'm okay with some compromise on it.

In the rendering it shows storefronts along Brunswick and about half of the Cogswell facade. That blank wall in the picture above is in the rendering too but it only goes for the back half of the Cogswell side: http://www.citadelhotelmakeover.ca/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/2-EXTRA-STOREYS-cornerwBrand12.jpg

If you look closely in the bus windows you can see some of the window shapes on the section of the wall closer to Brunswick St. Not the greatest way to deal with the hill but it is OK -- only maybe 1/6 blank wall.

I am curious about what the nondescript beige cladding on the lower sections of the buildings will be. Hopefully it will be something like brick instead of stucco or precast. Some of the renderings do show a brick-like texture on the light grey and beige parts of the building.

Wow, my eyes are starting to get bad; I can't see anything through those bus windows. But I'll take your word for it based on the rendering.

If you look a couple more posts up, you'll see a shot from pretty much the same angle, and without the bus, which seems to match the rendering.

Fire, ambulance and police on the scene at the Citadel for an industrial accident. Hope everybody is OK. Two firetrucks visible on webcam.

Looks like a 1100kg elevator motor fell onto a workers legs. I'm glad he is still alive, it could have been worse. Still horrible that these things happen in construction though. Just reminds us how dangerous some jobs are, and especially the one that fuels our hobby.

This is the second time in two weeks something happened on this site. Last week or late the week before something happened on-site. It didn't make the news but there was ambulance activity on the site. It sounds like a gruesome injury, hopefully he can make a recovery.

Based on a story in the allnovascotia.com, the injuries were reported as broken bones. As bad as that is, it could have been far worse.

Was there another on the Citadel site today? After yesterdays?

Bird (Citadel contractor) is also doing the construction at St. FX where there was a accident today where 2 fell from scaffolding. http://www.thechronicleherald.ca/novasco...njured-in-construction-accident-at-st-fx

Whats up at Bird? I would NOT like to be them once the Dept. of Labour is done with them.

Thanks for the excellent photos as usual! I'm pleased to see how open this appears to be at ground level so far. Hope there are a good number of entrances, since big boring expanses of glass aren't much better than blank concrete walls. But the rendering is promising in this regard.

Cool before/after!
