my fault. i was being needlessly critical. calgary's most urban inner-city areas appear to be on the other side of the skyline from where that picture was taken.

views like this are very impressive:

Wow that is a cool pic. Yeah the beltline is like 10x more dense than Kensington, especially as far as building stock goes.

Yup, that's west Hillhurst just west of 14th street.

Couldn't agree with you more. As far as Calgary's core goes, I think there's strong urban build up around the south, with not bad build-up on the west, and soon to be east side, but the north side (Kensington) could use more urban build up. It's finally starting to happen though, now that the city has done some rezoning in that area.

I'd like to retake that same shot this summer, now that those buildings are completed, and Keynote II, Calla and Alura would also be in the shot.

I thought I'd throw this one in. The downtown core just ends into nothing

X2 Sunnyside and Hillhurst needs some more height. Not highrises, but more 4-8 story buildings.

The lighting on the BC Parliament is horrid. Its a beautiful building by day (one of my favourites in the country), but by night it looks like it should be some plastic monstrosity in Vegas.

Agreed. I'd like to see that lighting come on say.... at Christmas time, but have more traditional up-lighting the rest of the year.

Calgary's core is kind of entering a golden age…….or a next level of its evolution if you will. The CDB is dense and tall, and built up, and in the last 10 years we saw a lot of development right in the CBD.

Now and, the next ten years will be different going forward. Most of the development will be in areas around the CBD. Right now in the CDB we have 2 office towers u/c and 3 more that are close, but there are currently 11 high-rise developments in East Village/Beltline that are u/c, and 5 more that are close (close as in tenders have already gone out). I don’t know if we’ll keep up that kind of pace for the core, but going forward, I do see the trend of more development outside of the CBD continuing.

Yeah it is kinda cheesy, the lighting on the Alberta Leg. is much nicer, gives it a warmth at night. Still a cool picture though...
