I'd like to see renovations to the US Bank Tower. In my opinion too many of downtown's skyscrapers are too corporate like. I'd like to see them reimagined to be more creative space and have the environment around the buildings updated for something that is more conducive to creativity and productivity. I'm not exactly sure how that would play out but I think it would add to the financial districts appeal. Also, that green strip on the crown needs to become an observation deck. The US Bank Building has been a symbol of Los Angeles for a very long time, it seems natural that people visiting and from the area would like to take in the views. It may also drive some more tourism into downtown. Just my two cents on that.

Well, AEG is no longer for sale and Tim Leiweke is leaving the company.

New gastropub open in downtown, called 'Black Sheep'. Looks good, if a little generic.

I held my breathe for a second until the last sentence.

“Priority projects going forward include the development of Farmers Field adjacent to our L.A. Live campus and the pursuit of our plan to bring the NFL back to Los Angeles,” said Beckerman in a statement.
At least that wasn't scrapped =]

It depends. I only want the NFL back if it's the Rams. The Raiders and Chargers do nothing for me. Also, the NFL can still happen even if AEG did completely scrap the Farmers project. Guggenheim has been talking to the NFL recently.

Despite the rhetoric to the contrary from the new CEO, the Farmers Field proposal is most likely dead.

The person at AEG who really pushed the NFL stadium was Leiweke, who has now left the company. Anschutz was never that enthusiastic about Farmers Field. He believes the project only makes sense for him under financial terms that the NFL will never accept. The only way this had a chance was with AEG under different ownership.

It is kind of a shame that Leiweke has to go. He's built that company from the ground up, and has been a huge figure in Downtown's rebirth.

Either way, what's really necessary here is the convention center remodel/expansion. Increased business at the LACC is really what will drive business at LA Live and make mega-developments like Metropolis and LA Central more feasible.

Not so fast. Certainly doesn't sound like Anschutz is done with it.

He'd have to change a lot of the proposal to provide what an NFL team wants, unless he straight up buys a majority stake himself. I suppose we'll see.

There are several big players involved here, between Guggenheim, Anschutz, S-S, and Kroenke. I'd say there's a pretty decent chance something happens with regards to a stadium deal or shifting ownership stakes.

I hope you're right. Anschutz and Kroenke (Rams owner) are great friends who have done business deals together in the past. It's possible that Phil and Stan find some common ground and a deal is reached. You're more likely to compromise on certain things if you like the person across the table.

Mayor Villaraigosa has issued a statement indicating that the city intends to move forward with the Convention Center modernization, regardless of what happens with AEG/Farmers Field.

http://www.laobserved.com/archive/2013/03/villaraigosa_statement_on_4.php

Quote:
"For the past three years, the City has expedited our process and lived up to our end of a deal to bring the NFL to Los Angeles and create a world-class convention center.

Now that AEG is no longer for sale and they have indicated that bringing an NFL team to LA remains a priority, I call on AEG to live up to its commitment by immediately sitting down with the NFL to reach an agreement.

However, the City will not wait for AEG, or any other party, to move ahead with the needed improvements to make our convention center a premier destination for meetings and conventions. Last year, we saw a record number of visitors come to Los Angeles and those visitors help drive our economy, fill our hotel rooms and take advantage of the numerous sports and entertainment options that we offer.

We will continue to pursue the important work of making Downtown LA a better place to work, live, visit and dine regardless of whether the NFL and AEG reach that agreement.

I am directing the CAO to provide me options within the next 30 days that provide a path forward to ensure that the convention center modernization project moves ahead no matter what."

I'm so beiged out in this city and how do they address my beigey complaints in this city? We want the city to blend it with the desert landscape!

A purple, yellow or green-painted house or wall (there's hundreds of miles of stucco/cinder block walls in the valley!) would be out of context!

To escape the beige ad nauseum in Las Vegas, I like to travel somewhere, where there's some color!

Excuse me. That sign is incredible........state of the art. The best you will ever see.

Just joking.

The building you posted earlier........this one:

Its a classic. I am playing an urbanist game where you are pursued and to get away you have to figure out in which city/town/village you are in the world. That bldg would fit pretty much in any French city. Its simple yet interesting. I am glad its getting saved.

As for the NFL, something or someone is smelling up the joint. LA is the second largest market in the country. The NFL has to want very badly to get back in. It doesn't make sense that negotiations are so bogged down.

I'm not sure if anyone posted this yet, but Curbed has a post about Loftway's annual condo sales report for Downtown.

http://la.curbed.com/archives/2013/03/the_most_and_least_expensive_downtown_lofts_of_2012.php

On that note, does anyone know how sales are doing at the Ritz? Last time I heard it had sold 70% of its units....
