You probably could. I think the list of high rises for all of Calgary is around 350 - 400, and almost all are in the core, so counting them all would actually be doable.

Thanks for the "support", but Calgary has more tall buildings in the west end of the skyline than Montreal has in the entire downtown. For a skyscraper nerd, I definitely wouldn't want to live in Montreal......theres a good urban realm in montreal though......but the skyline, nothing special.

it depends what you call a "Tall building". 400' is my minimum. 12 stories is not a high-rise IMO! And they sure shouldn't be considered a skyscraper. Having said that Calgary has a good supply of buildings over the 4 - 500' range.

calgary looks great there. now it needs some good residential density. a loft area, or some tall, wall-to-wall, houses. i think the "beltline" area will probably grow denser.

If the Beltline can add in the next 10 years, the same number of residential highrises it added in the last 10 years (16) , it will make a significant difference.

Right now there are 8 high rise residential towers u/c construction in the Beltline, a good start to equalling the last ten years.

....a loft area. Yeah, that would be nice. Because they would have to be new it doesn't seem likely.

I think the flatness of the prairie to the east in that shot makes it seem that way. As KW mentioned though, Calgary has more, and taller tall buildings than Montreal has. If we were comparing overall beauty of the city Montreal would win, but in the category of high rises Calgary destroys Montreal.

What's especially impressive is how quickly Calgary shot up to the big leagues. All their 400 ft buildings were built after 1975. Half of Montreal's 400 footers were built before then.

That said, I'm not so sure that Calgary has more highrises than Montreal. Considering that a highrise is a minimum of 12 storeys, and that Montreal is a much larger and more densely populated city, I would be very surprised if Calgary had more overall. Emporis lists 506 high-rise buildings in its database for Montreal, compared to 252 for Calgary. Even if those numbers are a little inaccurate or out-of-date it gives an idea.

Where Calgary has Montreal beat is skyscrapers (such as 100m+ buildings). Calgary's core is much more impressive from a skyline perspective, no question.

A quick search of the diagrams shows Calgary has 72 towers 100 metres+ and Montreal has 55. (Built, U/C, Proposed)

When proposals are taken out the numbers are Calgary 60, Montreal 45.

When Looking at ALL highrises 12+ floors (built, U/C and proposed), Montral has 689, and Calgary has 354.

The short story... Calgary has more very tall towers, Montreal has more highrises.

Calgary destroy Montreal ?? lol... because it has a few taller buildings? lol how does that "DESTROY" Montreal? ... that shot makes Calgary's downtown core look small. In the next 5 years Montreal will have a few towers over 160m tall. I guess Montreal will "DESTROY" Calgary then lol...
