Moving back to construction-related topics, for those that haven't been to the U of R in a while, here's a shot of what the newly renovated Education Auditorium looks like.

I'm guessing the guidance counselor recommended the U of S because you either had an interest in Mechanics or Civil construction, which the U of R can't help you with, not because he preferred the U of S's programming.

I would imagine that as well. When I was looking at different schools for engineering (electrical/electronic systems) the UofR and UofS were pretty evenly matched in terms of recommendations. Obviously for civil/mechanical the UofS is the obvious choice and for petroleum the UofR is. I only spent one year in engineering at the UofR before transferring out, but it seemed good. I don't know how the UofS works, but at the UofR the first year is a general year that all engineering disciplines share, then you diverge in your second year, so I can't compare specifics in any particular discipline.

I think the the U of R can only improve itself as a university, with enrollment numbers up and by the looks of it a new residence currently being built, this can only bring good things. As for the U of S i think they have there own problems as a medical university. Having the lowest national medical exam grades in the country can't help.

The site says it starts at $180,000, but what kind of square footage we talking about there? I'll be looking in the next few years and it seems right now that $180,000 doesn't get you much, and for what it does get the condo fees are completely ridiculous.

They aren't building yet. All they have done is drill and pour some test pilings to see how stable the soil is before they move any further on this project. That is what I've been told by a few UofR people that I know.

I'm not saying the degrees are worthless, I'm just saying the programs are hardly equal.

The fact that the U of R doesn't offer a non-petro chemical option, civil or mechanical is just plain terrible. Civil, electrical, chem and mechanical are the four biggest engineering disciplines. To only offer half is a poor decision. I'm still bitter that I had to move cities because the U of R doesn't offer one of the world's largest (if not the largest) engineering disciplines.

When I initially went to U of R guidance counselors I didn't know what program to go into. They told me if I was unsure I should go to the U of S. Everything the U of R covers is covered at the U of S, while the same is not true the other way around. I basically had my hand forced into moving cities.

Question about the Louis Riel Trail. Google shows it as being a freeway (the darker orange colour line), but I see it still has at grade crossings. How can it be a freeway? If that's the case, there's freeway's everywhere!

I can kind of confirm this. Lol I don't know what there doing, but there definately doing something! Hopefully it moves forward at a good pace.

One thing I dislike about UofR is the lack of student accommodations, so this is really exciting for me. It's kind of taking away from my uni experience the fact that my neighbors are an older couple and a family. To bad se boardwalk residences couldn't be strictly for students lol.

I believe Louis Riel trail is the section of Ring Road from Victoria Avenue to Albert Street, then North on Albert and connecting through to highway 11 to Saskatoon. No at grade crossings on that route.

And btw, google shows the darker orange ending right before the at grade crossing at Pasqua. All other crossings heading east from there and then around to the south and west are interchanges.

Ya I see that. I was looking more north along Hwy 11. At 11/734 and the intersections north from there. Google shows at grade crossings, looks like three of them. And possibly some turkey crossings in the median in a couple spots. Than it shows the dark orange ending prior to the next bridge, which is fine I guess. Just thought maybe the air photo wasn't updated or something.

Yeah i might have jumped the gun there. Iv been meaning to ask the PCL construction workers on site but there usually no where to be found, lol? But the 2 piles that i can see, stick up about 20 feet or greater out of the ground and currently have a giant metal beam running between the 2 piles. It seems big enough to be a base beam for a building?

Downside of this is they completely cut of a parking lot for M permit holders(Who is me/Majority of sudents) on top of another one they cut at the beginning of the month, after i pay 400$ in august for these M spots and now they just get cut with no refund. Parking there is a joke< rant over

There are a few at grade rural roads that come up to the highway between Saskatoon and Regina. Most don't really think of them because most of them generally aren't too heavily used. It would be uneconomical to make interchanges at all these points, but at the same time, farmers and the rural dwellers need the access that those connections to the main highways provide.

I don't think anyone here calls it a freeway anyway; we just say that it's a divided highway and leave it at that.

That's really unfortunate. It doesn't help that transit is fairly poor. Have there been talks on discounted bus passes for the U of R? That seems like a no brainier to me considering it's location and the potential benefits it would do to transit in the city. I'm currently taking classes at the U of S and even here I wish there was more to further the university experience. I know it's not about being social (some may disagree) but I wish there was more nightlife on campus or along College. I've been to other campuses where there is so much going on that it feels like a well done downtown most days.
