I don't know how I really feel about these little towns trying to create a faux downtown. Hopefully they base it on a classic city grid system.

Highland is trying to create their little downtown, creation, thing ...and then they forgot that they don't allow businesses to be open on Sunday which in turn caused Smiths Marketplace to build just over the western border in Lehi (allows businesses to be open on Sunday), Walmart just over the SE Highland border in Cedar Hills (also allows businesses to be open on Sunday). I think that stupid law is a little overbearing from local leadership. You're either pro-business or your're not. Highland has some people that don't realize this. Anyway, enough with my rant...

Eagle Mountain planning a downtown development

EAGLE MOUNTAIN -- The city leaders and staff of Eagle Mountain are looking both toward the past and the future in a new proposed master plan.

A central downtown area similar to Lehi Main Street or Provo Center Street may well be the most essential part of the design. The plan is not held by time constraints as of yet, cautioned Steve Mumford, Eagle Mountain's planning director.

American Fork group wants to restore downtown school building

AMERICAN FORK -- "Your help is needed to restore a gem" -- that's the heading of a letter going out from the Timpanogos Arts Foundation seeking funds to do an architectural study on the former Harrington School in downtown American Fork.

On the north side of city hall, the school has been vacant for many years and is far from a gem in its current state. It is privately owned by Dr. Carl Bell and there have been several proposals to put it to use, but none has come to fruition.

Bell has indicated his willingness to sell the building to the city, Paul Washburn, chairman of the arts governing board, said. But before the city takes the plunge, representatives would like to have an architectural study performed.

Imagine three blocks for the downtown with two one- or two-lane, one-way roads separated by 60-foot wide park areas. Each road either runs traffic east or west. Angled parking, similar to Provo's Center Street area, would be created on both sides of each road, making four rows of stalls for parking parallel to the businesses. Additional parking would be possible behind the close-packed storefront-style shops.
Would be easier to imagine with a rendering. Still, there's good ideas here and if people are going to live in Eagle Mountain it's better they can work/shop there instead of driving across the metro.

Quote:
The residential zones closest to the main street area, for example, would be mostly townhomes and multi-family dwellings of that sort -- not apartment buildings. Farther north and south, away from the shopping arcade, the blocks would expand to the typical single-family row houses one sees in larger cities, and from there to the more traditional Eagle Mountain lot sizes and dwellings.
This is a relief. Apartments are scary.

Not really sure how a 60' wide park strip makes an area a "downtown" Even if both sides of the street are lined with retail, that is a huge chasm to cross to get to the other side, 60' of park strip, plus two to four lanes of 12' each makes for a really wide not very urban feeling place. Minimum of 84', possibly up to 108' from curb to curb, I am assuming the heights won't be more than 2 maybe 3 stories, that doesn't provide much downtown feel, IMO.

NSA super "spy" center

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JRUDY00e-k

This is a video that includes discussion about the gigantic NSA data center. I was trying to find clips about Minority Report the movie, and I found this. It basically says that the NSA has developed technology to identify anybody through their "digital fingerprint", and it will all be stored at the new Utah NSA data center. Big Brother is watching. lol.

I don't like the sound of this at all. Gone are the days of simply living a private life without the government knowing when I take a 🞵🞵🞵🞵.

Lots of development happening in the Lehi area. Most we know about, but maybe some might be new to us. ( at least for me there were. ) Alot of new office buildings from 3-stories to 6-stories coming to Lehi.
Just for fun I put together a list of projects in the area of Lehi.

Speaking of Xactware, While driving by the site for the first time yesterday there is a crane with steel beams going up into place. It's going to be a long 4-story building like of like Adobe. I'm sure when finish this building will stick out just as much.

Thanks for putting that together Lee. Amazing, everything that is going on at That Thanksgiving Point area. I wonder how flexible the plans for the Lehi Pointe Center are. I noticed the theater complex in the renderings. Seems though that the big new Miller Theater complex expansion across the street will kind of render another one at Lehi Pointe a little redundant.??

No way will this development include a theater. Also, looking at the image, it does not seem to fit the layout plan at all. I think that is just a stock image and nothing more.

The Silicon Slopes area is definitely booming with large investments from Adobe, Micron, Xactware, and Ebay among others. As well as the desire to turn the prison site into more tech space.

But you do have to worry the area is becoming much like Denver's tech center, which 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 a huge amount of development away from downtown into the suburbs. Hopefully they can have smart, mixed-use development and utilize TRAX, making these areas more than just 9-5 locations.

Also, I think 'Traverse Mountain' is actually Xactware's new headquarters - http://www.xactware.com/en-us/groundbreaking/media-kit-and-company-history/building-facts/

Vivint opens Innovation Center

February 19, 2013 12:24 am • Genelle Pugmire - Daily Herald

http://www.heraldextra.com/business/loca...d682be0-a9be-5f05-8192-c40f28cf92a1.html

LEHI -- Vivint, the largest home automation services company in North America, has opened its doors on the new Vivint Innovation Center near Thanksgiving Point. The Innovation Center is part of Vivint's plan to keep its trademarks on all newly-developed equipment and technology being used by the company from here into the future. As part of the move, Matthew Eyring has been hired as chief strategy and innovation officer to oversee developments.

The Vivint Innovation Center, located in Lehi, employs hardware, software and radio engineers; industrial designers; and user experience professionals. Besides Eyring, Vivint named J.T. Hwang, chief technology officer; Jim Nye, vice president of product development; and Jeremy Warren, vice president of innovation. Warren joins Vivint from 2GIG Technologies, a company that develops home security and automation systems, where he served as chief technology officer.

Blackstone Group LP recently purchased Vivint for $2 billion, one of the biggest sales in Utah history, as well as Vivint Solar and 2GIG Technologies...

I found this story that serves as a good reminder that while you might be excited about the new spy center at the point of the mountain, don't go taking pictures of it.
