Yes, it was! We stoppped by and the wait was about 45 minutes to be seated. Since they were still on a limited-menu, we opted to not wait and went over to Railyard Brewing, which was good as usual. We did eat lunch last Monday at the Irish Bred Pub and it was good.

Happy to see so much action downtown on Saturday night!

I really feel like Montgomery is lacking in the Downtown development news.

I kind of miss the old days when there was so much going on. Maybe this is the calm before the storm?

Lots of proposals, talks, plans, etc going on. I'm ready to see some construction.

Can you guys help me make a list of developments that are beyond the "talking about" stage?

--- 220-Apartment units @ Columbus/N.Perry
http://blog.al.com/montgomery/2011/04/montgomery_announces_20m_apart.html

--- Printing Press Lofts @ 215 N. Court

--- 15k SqFt mixed-use property @ Commerce/Bibb
http://www.wsfa.com/story/19094942/new-development-slated-for-downtown-parking-lot

--- 4.5k SqFt extension of The Alley to Coosa Street
http://www.montgomerychamber.com/page.aspx?pid=2791

--- The creation of row buildings on lower Commerce (to match older ones opposite of them)
http://centralmontgomery.wsfa.com/news/news/194666-new-development-planned-commerce-street

--- Demolition of the Statehouse Inn, plans for a large hotel.
http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/article/20121002/NEWS01/310020012

--- The Maxwell BLVD/Riverwalk extension project.

This development is very hard to keep track of because of the scale and potential phases that are required. To date, I only know of the streetscape upgrades and roadway widening. I imagine work has already started on the link of the Riverwalk to Maxwell AFB.

My question is... how far away are we from hearing about structures being built on the riverview side of Bell St/Maxwell BLVD?

--- Webber building renovation

--- The Library/Children's museum at One Dexter Plaza
Haven't heard anything about this one in a while?

There is a lot going on...its just not being reported on this site much anymore.

But don't worry, I'm back now.

BTW, though it's not downtown, it looks like Carmike Cinemas is going to build a theater next to Home Depot on Chantilly Pkwy.

If so, I suspect that'll put an end to the Eastdale Mall theater.

Future scheduled events:

- The Alabama Youth Soccer Association will hold its Division I and II Final Four and the Division III Governor’s Cup in November at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex.

The event will bring 120 to 125 teams to Montgomery. The city has a deal to play host to the event for the next three years.

- The Southern Soccer Cup will be held at the soccer complex March 23 and 24 and will feature 82 youth teams from across the Southeast.

The tournament will include 140 games in two days.

- The United States Adult Soccer Association will hold its regional championships in June at the soccer complex.

- The city will hold the Capital of Dreams Triathlon April 28 in a first-time event in downtown Montgomery.

- USA Cycling will hold a sprint race down Dexter Avenue in June.

Cyclists will ride down Dexter, circle the Capitol, and head back down Dexter which will be lined with bales of hay to protect against crashes.

This is the Irish Bred Pub. There's live music on the 2nd floor and a DJ and dancing on the 3rd.

...making your way, in the world today, takes everything you've got... oh, sorry. flashback.

...also on Dexter Avenue, it looks like BB&T has now placed their sign onto the RSA Dexter Judicial Tower. eeh, what you think?

more updates to come.

More Updates!

Double Tree Hotel - opening this month. First guess are scheduled to arrive March 28th.

Webber Building - renovation begins this month. Momma Goldberg's Deli will be one of its tenants.

Waffle House - construction starts March 16th. This "prototype" will be slightly larger than average and pedestrian-friendly. It will be close to the sidewalks and contain no parking lot. The company calls it the country's first "eco-friendly" waffle house.

Interested to see how this will look. That lot was hardly big enough for a parking lot too, so it will be cool to see the final product.

Good tie-in to neighborhood history, too. The area of Old Cloverdale proper was previously referred to as Graham's Woods. Cool!

Westside/Fairview Avenue update:

So it seems like Walgreens is now looking at property on the corner of Court Street and Fairview Avenue. I guess they are no longer interested in building a store farther down in the Cloverdale business area.

We ate lunch yesterday at The Deli at Alley Station. When walking back to my car, we noticed that there is only one undeveloped store front on Commerce Street between SaZa's and the corner of Commerce and Tallapoosa Street. I would think that this would be the spot?

And those of us in Old Cloverdale are thrilled with their decision to move on.

That being said, I expect there to be major opposition to the corner they are looking at. It is the north-east corner of that intersection, which is located in the Garden District. I believe that corner is currently zoned single-family. The talk I've heard is that most do not want a business jumping Court Street and encroaching on the neighborhood side of the street.

I'd think that one of the properties on the west side of Norman Bridge/Cloverdale would be best.

Does anyone know what they are building in front of the Walmart on Anne Street?
