I don't know a whole lot about home construction. Never owned a new home. Does KDR (or any other builder I guess) design homes and have a contractor build it? Or do they have their own carpenters and sub out the other work?

I have always had a soft spot for that building. It would make a great retail building lined with shops if they could surround it with condo developments.

On another note, a couple of University-related updates:

Construction of the 5th floor of the Wallace Building (vertical expansion) has finally been completed, and my research group is in the process of moving into our new space. There is a public open house on Monday March 18th from 2:30 - 4:30, if anyone is interested in seeing the new space, and learning about Arctic research.

From my new window, I can see that a tower crane is going up for the new Active Living Centre. Wonderful day for raising a tower crane...

According to the city that portion of Plesis is the highest traffice volume 2 lane street in the city.

I'm thinking Bournais Dr to Pandora is going to be most people's alternative. The city wants to minimize traffic increase there (not sure how they're going to accomplish that). There's a school on that street too. There is already a major backup issue on Bornais whenever a train passes.

The bus I catch takes Bournais to Pandora. I'm not looking forward to this.

You have to think of it as short-term pain for long-term gain. Otherwise it will drive you nuts, and life is too short to worry about things like this!

Bournais was going to be the official detour. But I think discussions with the school stopped that. I drive that route every morning. It's going to be a nightmare. There literally isn't ANY other route to get by in the area. You have to go either all the way west to Lag. or east all the way to Ravenhurst. That's almost 8 km between the two.

For any folks questioning why Plessis needs to get done. It's the only route there is!

I'm not sure exactly what that means, but what I can gather is that the City doesn't know what is happening at that site.

Yeah there is, along with all the other usual suspects. Coordinating those relocation's with the underpass work and trying to fit a road detour in there in 1.5 years is a stretch. Hence the closing.

And honestly why would they build there, here the river will take over the riverbanks which don't make sense why they build along there anyway.? On roslyn east the apartments which have underground parkades have to pump out water when the river floods.

I'm personally not a huge fan of the exterior, but that interior is nice enough! Is the hotel fully open now?
Looking forward to seeing the new Women's hospital take shape next.

I installed a lot of granite in that building. Interior isn't too exciting, but I suppose it's tasteful. The restaurant on the main floor seems pretty nifty, and has a few splashes of colour. The exterior is as ugly as any other building constructed for that hotel chain.

I'm not sure if they are 100% open on every floor, but there are certainly guests staying there.
