Still mostly unknowns, but this does vibe with what Crackertastik said earlier in the month about interest being somewhat limited. He also said that the proposal would be "tall, iconic." Of course that begs the question of how tall, and iconic by whose standards?
That means 600-700 ft at most if we're talking about a hotel only. But it is a relatively small lot, so depending on FAR and air rights, it could be taller.

Coffee Bar is apparently going to be turned into a full-fledged restaurant. The new chef hosted a meal there to showcase some of his ideas for the place. Looks good!

That's just a pop-up restaurant at night that I think expires in March.

That would make it around the height of the LA Live tower.... If it ends up that tall I'll be very happy!

A website has a pic of the latest work on the front side of cliftons on broadway. all the concrete blocks have been removed from the windows. It appears that a stairwell occupies the space behind many of the windows on the right side of the bldg, which surprises me.

i can hardly wait til the renovation is complete, but it does look like lots & lots of work will have to be done...lots of blood, sweat & tears...before the facade is presentable. The front of the bldg appears to have been in very rundown shape before it was covered with a steel mesh in the 1960s.

It's easy for outsiders....like me....to watch all the work that takes place at projs like that, or the tear down of the grand wilshire hotel, or all the labor that goes into the various new projs going up in the hood, & forget that making things good can be a very, very tedious, tiring, difficult, sweat inducing job.

I lived in Minneapolis for 21 years. In winter, everyone is on the skyways, it becomes a 2nd story city, scarcity of pedestrians in the streets, come nicer weather, pedestrian activity increases. So if you have a fast food shop on the skyway system, you're busy in the winter, slow in the summer!

Houston has their subterranean tunnels, which become below ground cities in summer, or when weather is inclement. I made my first trip to Houston a few years back, in winter, with an unusual cold snap which brought snow flurries to the city, and there was hardly a pedestrian to be seen. Didn't know, then, about the tunnels underground, dived into the tunnels, and they were packed with people! That explained the lack of pedestrian activity on the streets!

Minneapolis and Houston are very similar in that respect!

Is this what L.A. wants?

Apparently, the pop is is just a precursor to a permanent restaurant.

I hope that's not the case. CoffeeBar makes the best espresso by far in the main downtown area. The only place that's better is Handsome, which is out of morning walk distance for me.

I believe the restaurant is in addition to the coffee.

A current map of development in downtown LA from @DownLATown. You can tweet at the account for updates/changes. I'm sure he/she would appreciate it.

Avant was also left out as well as all of the Block 8 stuff under construction and breaking ground soon. Lots of planned stuff missing. The person doing the map (which is a great idea!) should visit the Downtown News development update section.

Can someone tell me what the latest is with the Hotel Restoration on 6th and Normandie? When I passed it the other day, it looked as if the developer had gone under water and pulled out. It seemed to be boarded up. I've really been looking forward to that projects completion. Normandie has some great architecture through that area.

I don't have any connection with the developers, but I can assure that the Hotel Normandie restoration is still going ahead. The exterior on the upper floors has been beautifully restored, and scaffolding has come down in the last few weeks. The ground floor retail spaces have been boarded up since the renovation began 2 years ago. They are still being rebuilt; just yesterday I saw them working on building new storefronts facing 6th Street. They seem to be very much on target for an opening by this Summer. Photos of their continued progress can be found on their Facebook page.

Good to hear Muji. When I saw the street level on 6th it was even more boarded up than before, but that was a week ago and must of had something to do with ongoing work. Now I'm excited to take a walk over in that area and check it out.

Broad Museum from late yesterday afternoon.

You can see the beginning formwork for the undulating entrances on the first level.

Weird bit of Hotel Clark news - I got a letter that was a "notice of intention of engage in the sale of alcoholic beverages." So that's something. At least they're moving somewhat forward...
