Does TD have a big presence in Quebec?

It's always struck me as interesting that the tallest tower in Toronto is emblazoned with a logo evoking the city of Montreal, and the second tallest tower with a logo evoking Nova Scotia. It's a kind of subtle record of Canadian history and a humbling hint that Toronto wasn't the country's first financial/economic centre.

^True although I would hardly categorize BMO as a Montreal emblem. Their presence is relatively small in this city and has been even before the times of the sprint down the 401. Even in the times of St. James street running the shots it was RBC, not BMO which built a pre-war skyscraper, while BMO never built a true skyscraper in the city which it called home. Montreal's true banking emblem has to be National Bank, and Desjardins (although that is technically HQ'd in Levis, Qc).

At the risk of sounding anecdotal none of my friends and colleagues have a BMO account, except for one whose from Vancouver.

No that much but they are in growth mode. But TD is a minor player in comparison to Desjardins and Banque Nationale (National bank).

Apparently this 41 storey thing is back from the dead and heading to design committee. It would be 1 block NE of the arena and adjacent to the new Arts and Cultural Campus.

I believe the podium would have non-market housing.

If I was on the design committee I would promptly send that clunky proposal back to the drawing board. It's terrible.

Dmajackson found a website with a bunch of preliminary 3D models for proposals around Halifax: http://rootarchitecture.ca/projects

Most of them are for the North End or inner suburban neighbourhoods. One interesting find is basically a "little brother" for the Trillium condos:

The taller building to the left is the Trillium, which is already built. It will be interesting to see how built up this neighbourhood becomes in a few years. In 2000 or so it was half parking lots. In a couple of years it will be 20 blocks or so with a scale similar to the rendering above. There's even a 30 storey tower rumoured for the neighbourhood (and Fenwick will soon be bumped up to 36).

here this news are saying that TD went from 84 branch in 2004 to 120 in 2012 and by 2015 they will have 143 branch in Quebec! Also the number of employees went from 2500 to 5000.

Excellent interaction with the street. Nothing new or earth-shattering but a great addition and a nice height of a city that values sightlines - congrats, Quebec!

I agree, especially considering what it will replace; the two buildings on the left side of the picture have just been demolished.

Oh, yes, tremendous improvement. And it really extends the truly urban section of that block right to its edge. It's going to have a disproportionately large impact on how urban and liveable that block feels.

I love how it interacts with the heritage buildings surrounding it and, in the view in the first photo, I love it full stop - but looking at the rest, doesn't it seem squat up? It's almost like it would be proposed here, under height restrictions.

If the last photo focuses on a parkade portion, I LOVE the exterior treatment for it.

Anyway, great addition.
