They were lowering the steel girders onto the old (and now cut) columns this morning.

I saw the steel pieces still loaded on trucks as I was coming home at 8 this morning.

halted??? far from it.. they choped the peers and horded them while they worked on the area where the ped bridge will sit

the section of road deck still on the peers is their staging grounds for access

Actually, I heard that whole block was going to be bulldozed so that Artis can build a new office tower called Trizac 2... it was going to be a 30 floor tower where the current surface parking lot is at McDermot and Main and the rest was going to be a sunken streetscape that connects to the concourse at Portage and Main.

I drive Disraeli regularly and didn't see boo going on there all winter. Ever since the girder fell when they were removing it, seemed like the site was empty. Guess I was wrong. Maybe I'm too late (6- 6:30 ish) when driving by to see anybody working.

There was a lot of concrete sawing going on earlier in the winter, lately the work has been underneath hoarding below the level of the roadway.

Yes, good luck!

I hope you're looking to live the 'Urban-dense-Transit' life, because the suburban-stuck-in-your-car life has a lot of... just that... being stuck in your car... unless you have a job in the suburbs somewhere

Best wishes from a Port Moody ex-resident. (p.s. watch for the new skytrain extension in Coquitlam - Port Moody starting construction... right now).

Right on! I'm more focused on staying in my narrow lane than peering over the edge. Or maybe the lane isn't narrow, just no room for error with the guard walls!

No the lanes are narrow, it's like bumper cars off the guard rails when it's slippery out. Cheaped out not building a 6 lane bridge, cheaped out by not putting a proper pedestrian side-walk on the bridge, cheaped out by not putting shoulders on the bridge, cheaped out by building it to the bare minimum in terms of width of traffic lanes.

word is the reason condo sales for the 2 new condo projects being built on Assiniboine avenue are doing good because there being less car traffic noise on that road makes the area more appealing.

------
IMO all the river banks as greenspace and build up more density on the north side of assiniboine and eventually tear down all the rest of the low rise apartements ... there.

If they didn't cheap out, everyone who lives in Not East Kildonan would get their 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 in a knot.

If they didn't cheap out everyone in EK/NK/ESP/Elmood would be upset because they would have been commuting over the Louise and Redwood bridges for 2+ years while the extra wide bridge was being built.

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. To your point Mininari I am looking for a place in DT core and False Creek even though I will be commuting the other way, most of my accounts are out in Abbottsford LOL So your post was bang on. But on my time the car will be in the garage and transit/walking/biking will be my mode of transpo.

Abbotsford eh? Yep, you'll be in the car. You might want to register yourself for a TREO sticker for the new Port Mann Bridge (toll bridge). I think tomorrow is the last day to get the discounted toll rate for a few more months.

Good call on the False Creek Area. Its actually not that bad reverse commuting from there. Terminal Ave - 1st - Freeway - Abbotsford.

Lots of construction happening around the area too!

That's probably the reason why sales are doing well. If the city would get off their asses and get to building the James Street Parkade, things would be different for the Exchange condos.
Agree..parking is the reason why. I'd like to see a comparison on how successful condos are with and without parking in the city. Still boggles me why not just have underground parking on new developed buildings...u have to dig down there anyways ie h20
