There's been a ton of rental stock built downtown in the last few years, it just happens to be investor owned condos, rather than purpose built rentals.

i beg someone to find a rental in the west end under $900 - i don't think they even exist

they are building a rental building at market rates not a rental building at social housing rates, i guess i don't find the rates being reported on all that shocking

You'd be surprised at the amount of rentals being offered in that neck of the woods around that price... and even lower!

The quality at that price varies, and it's mostly older buildings; but these places do exist. Check out Craigslist.

Hey guys, I am joining your fray from the chilly confines of Winnipeg as of tommorow. I look forward to all of the excitement and beauty that Vancouver has to offer and hopefully I will be able to contribute information here and there ( I have a family member involved with the Telus Garden project) I have seen a few of you mention you reside in Woodwards do you know of any units that are looking for a lessee come April 1? Please feel free to PM me if so. Talk soon.

Welcome to Vancouver. Don't personally know of any units coming up at Woodwards. They tend to go very quickly and are going for a premium over similar comparables. Most of Gastown seems to be that way these days. With the amount of units in Woodwards there is always units coming open so keep your eyes open and be ready to pounce. Easier said then done though if you are in an exisiting lease. Look in the Crosstown area as well.

Thanks for the tip jlousa, no exsisting lease as I will be staying with family for the first month.

Anyone know what project he's referring to?

Thanks for the photo. Is it possible to tell from the street whether the second floor of the new building connects to the heritage building to create a single second storey floorplate?

The floor plans show that it does, since it's just the facade that has been preserved.

BTW here's a pic from above - looks like it will end up being about the same height as the Medical Arts Building next door.

Noticed that lamp poles are up for the new traffic lights at Georgia & Seymour (NW and NE corners (westbound Georgia and northbound Seymour. Not sure about eastbound Georgia)). The new poles will allow the removal of the traffic lights strung on cables affixed to the corner of the Hudson's Bay building - and clear the way for the installation of the last remaining spotlight for the Hudson's Bay facade lighting.

few more DT snaps from today (my pics)

ROGERS

BEATTY INFILL OFFICE TOWER

also in this pic you can see the new "retail" space created by the Station Reno will be for a relocated LOST ITEMS office. I wonder what the old space downstairs that will be behind the FARE GATES will become ..... (aka the ex tunnel head to the WEST) ... maybe it will be a new retail space?

Thanks for the pics.

The Rogers Arena tower site looks much bigger (with the plywood defining the floorplate) than it used to.

It is strange to see rebar for concrete construction on top of the brick and timber building (as mentioned in the article posted by JLousa).

I guess it also makes sense that people shouldn't have to pay a fare to visit the lost items office.

1133 Melville Street

Someone I know who works at a major engineering firm in Downtown Vancouver says he saw plans for elevator banks at 1133 Melville Street - the building seems to be very large. I've read some previous rumours about this location, an office building if I do recall, anyone have anything they could add?

I dunno, would 32 stories, 650,000 sf be considered large?

To me it seems to make more sense if they kept both parts... they still need the large warehouse space provided downstairs, but with the Compass Card introduction it probably makes little sense to charge people accessing their office because the old entrance will now be in a fare paid zone.

There is a potential for another coffee shop or convenience store in the remaining space, but there's already two within that station...
