There are also plans for a new version of Le Mackay, although scaled down to a paltry 25 floors.

Its an interesting comparison. This is the best aerial of Saskatoon that I could find:

Central Saskatoon i6325 by ferreth, on Flickr

Beltline still looks substantially larger to me:

^ As flattered as I am by the comparison, it's definitely a big stretch.

The scale is a bit too big in the Saskatoon photo. Just a bit.

I love even our small Canadian cities. Very impressive skylines.

It'd be awesome if Saskatoon got a 500 footer! It's got a good skyline in the making. I'd have fun starting with a skyline like that in simcity and making it stand out a bit more!

That big grain elevator gives it some character from that angle.

It will be getting a 302 footer starting this year or next year! The River Landing condo tower will be the tallest building in Saskatchewan at 92 meters, the office will be 80 meters, and the hotel will be 56 meters. All quite substantial buildings by Saskatchewan standards, and the first one should be starting this summer/fall (the office building)

Unfortunately, Saskatoon much like other Canadian cities has a building height limit. Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa, Edmonton etc have height limits based on different reasons. In this case meewasin valley authority and city council unfortunately deem what is an appropriate height for buildings in the downtown core and city, suggesting sight lines or shadowing as reasons for limiting height. I think its like 70 something meters, this and the fact most NIMBYs still predominate in Saskatoon despite at the same time urban sprawl is an often mentioned concern. River landing project got special permission to build at height requested. 500 footer more likely to happen in Regina

The above is very true. In Regina we do have about 3 square blocks of which about half sit empty as parking lots where there is no height restriction. The only height restriction is how tall the building can be built without sinking. Though technology in engineering should allow much taller structures now to be built on the soft clay land.

Yeah I think they had to do some pretty insane pile-driving to stabilize the site for Mosaic Potash Tower(Regina's new tallest) to be built.

How deep is the bedrock?

It was talked about pretty recently in the Regina thread, it's pretty far down, at least a hundred meters I believe, if not more. Saskatoon's bedrock is closer to the surface than Regina's.

This makes me curious as to how deep the bedrock is for different Canadian cities... only on SSP could I admit this without feeling like a total 🞵🞵🞵🞵.

The bedrock is very deep in Calgary. Hence all the raft slab foundations.

They can have their height restrictions I will take that beautiful density over a few super-talls any day! Just beautiful.
