I'm really happy phase 2 of sky is actually going up, I always worried that it would go the way of so many other phase 2's in this city and never be built.

Its also really nice to see progress on the hotel on waterfront!

ALT will really have great presence on Portage Avenue, in a very prominent location. I'm glad the design is both warm and unique (well, unique as far as what is currently in Winnipeg). Thanks for the photo updates.

I stopped by the show room for D-Condos today. Pricing seems to be really high... $420/sq ft. An extra parking spot is 40k.

It seems like that they are not having any problems selling units. All of the layouts, finishes and features seem quite nice.

The sales lady said they are planning to start construction in the spring.

And thanks for lighting shot, headhorse. It actually looks pretty cool. One thing I will never have against implementing in Winnipeg, is lighting. Definitely brings some much needed character.

Good to hear D condos may get going in the spring too. Good stuff. Looks like a much needed injection of construction pictures to remind us there's a ton of stuff going on!

Those lights look a lot better than the metal "trees" they put up on Portage in St. James, back in the late 90's!

I wonder how well they will be maintained?

If you look in the exchange or Chinatown areas there are constantly burnt our bulbs in the unique fixtures they put in there or completely missing decorative lamps with orange cones over the bases protecting the wires.

I think it would look a little nicer if the sidewalks were cleared regularly. Keep it looking spiffy; without the degrading, sand covered piles everywhere. May be too costly however.

Once the trees have some leaves it should change the look also. Fake trees will blend in with the real ones. The lights will be kind of floating in the leaves.

Are they maintained by the city or the BIZ?

In my neighbourhood, we have special streetlights and all but the bulbs are maintained by the BIA. It feel on tough times a few years ago and nothing got maintained for a while until the city stepped up and increased funding.

I wonder this myself. There are quite a few burnt out/broken lamps in the exchange, I always thought the exchange deserved a little more than the bare minimum in repairs...

To be honest I am not sure who pays for maintenance in these districts, but I remember the city having a tender in 2012 for the style of standards in the exchange district.
