I would imagine that the sewer lines would have the capacity. They have a combined waste water/land drainage downtown. The volume for land drainage is many times that of waste water. From what I understand they have large brick sewers downtown like on the Ninja Turtles; not just a 12" pvc pipe like in the suburbs.

Manitoba Hydro is getting saturated downtown, the King St station is at capacity in the summer (station runs hot in summer so transformers are less efficient than in winter). Edmonton is nearing firm capacity and York St. just put in the the last bay a few years ahead of predictions.

King St will get some relief when the new station at HSC comes on line but that's still a few years away. There is a report on the Hydro Website that talks about the problems in the coming years with reliability of the existing system due to its age.

And that's just Hydro, do the 100 year old sewer and water lines have the capacity to handle high rise builidngs and the volumes they require coming in and going out.

Hydro is replacing the King St Station as well. Should be complete in 2015.

Am I the only one that looks at the Gio's site, then looks at the "at capacity" Hydro station across the lane and wonders if it is an expansion of the hydro station that is taking over the Gio's site?

Edit: not sure how the grid is structured but with several high rise buildings under construction, the electrical grid at capacity and a failed attempt to expand the King St station a few years back due to people not wanting to lose buildings in the Exchange make the possible expansion of the York St station to the west onto Gio's site seem like a strong possibility, no?

Just came back from the Airport during transit fanning, the hotel now has glass on it!!! Also looks to have interior work underway. Also noticed the 7-11/PetroCanada is now built, along with a pub/pool hall. I'm starting to like this place!

been noticing traffic in and out of the old masonic temple last while anyone know whats going on? they've been shuviling the front and theres fresh foot prints
last yr they didn't shuvil the snow. just an observation

Has anyone noticed there are two new cameras mounted on a pole on the intersection of Portage and Donald, the same corner where MEC store is? But they're both mounted on the same pole, and both pointing into the same spot (directly down)...

The building is being prep'd to go back on the market within the next few months.
