Looks a little chubby for 38 storeys. But I'll wait for a better image before judging it.

Rene-Levesque blvd. gets another set of twins in the 120m range. This is getting a bit old, no?

The design is nice. And thank goodness they're gonna building rowhouses and renovate the mansion on Overdale street.

The Niagara Falls proposal looks a bit like a lego building with some pomo flair. Although it's not the first to look like that, I'm not sure what to make of it.

I like this one! It reminds me a bit of Les Bassins du Havre in Montreal (minus the canal).

Add to the list of buildings where the mass betrays the implied shape:

So a buildings shape is actually just an implication of it's actual shape. Now I get it lol.

The above are all mostly-box buildings attempting to be elliptical, rhombus, etc... an architectural fakery spanning the last 30 years that would make any modernist spin in his grave.

It's often through a juxtaposition of shapes, as well as materials and other design elements that a building can be made more interesting. This is not totally new.

Ah I see, so the shape of the building we all see is just fake. They are just boxes all the way from podium to pinnacle, thanks for the clarification. So then the ESB and Chrysler are really just boxes as well. Gotcha.

FYI, 1 King West doesn't have a single 4 sided floor.

Plans called for a 30-storey tower, along with a 2,700-square-metre convention centre, restaurants, shopping area and three levels of underground parking. The concrete for both the underground parking garage and the hotel's plaza/base was built. A tough global economy resulting from the 9/11 terrorist attacks and a decline in tourists visiting Niagara Falls meant that Rudan Holdings Ltd. couldn't get the financial backing they needed to get the project finished. Construction was stopped in 2004 and never resumed. The property has since been sold to Matas Homes who are going to be completing the building with their new plans for the Grand Condominium Hotel.

Halifax's newest proposal. Cunard Block (thread) is situated on the Halifax waterfront in the southern reach of Downtown between Nova Scotia Power's new headquarters and Bishops Landing (developed by Southwest as well).

Joint bid chosen for Cunard Block

The Cunard Block project is slated for a Lower Water Street site.

The Waterfront Development Corp. Ltd. has found its private partner in the $75-million Cunard Block project.

The provincial Crown agency announced Thursday that following a request for proposals process launched in August, it has selected a joint bid from Southwest Properties Ltd. and Minett Real Estate Services, headed by Toronto developer Alan Greenberg.

There were four proposals made during the process, corporation president Colin MacLean said in a telephone interview.

That's really nice. I'd love to see Halifax boom and one day be in the top 5 metro sizes in the nation. Canada needs a major city on the Atlantic coast. Canada wise it has a great climate, and it's situated in a very good place on the continent near many major American cities.

Go Halifax.

Go Halifax.
The problem is that Halifax is actually quite far from those American cities by land. For it to really boom, Halifax would need better freight rail connections to the US and maybe Quebec. This, however, is totally achievable.

Wow, great Halifax proposal. It's beautiful and will introduce a new style to the city. It reminds me of a building in Winnipeg that has a similar Jetson's-esque look. It's curved edges, though, are just decorative and not balconies.

I can't find a good angle of it on Google Street View, but here it is anyway: http://goo.gl/maps/LtfwF

And, in addition to my interview with CBC, jeddy1989's interview with NTV (which is, by FAR, the more popular evening newscast here) is now available for viewing. Woot woot!

Same here. It's not over the top: clean and sharp.

New render of the Point Zero condo-hotel on René-Lévesque. Much better than the previous one.

The building will be 32 storeys high and construction is set to start in the coming weeks, without any pre-sale, with the demolition of a 20 storeys building on the site. The tower will be 125 meters high.

Along with the Hotel De La Montagne, that makes two 20 storeys towers that will be demolished downtown. Two concrete monsters replace by much better buildings.

The Point Zero project will be anchored by a hotel of the french chain Accor. The new tower will be across the street form the V/Marriott Courtyard now under construction.
