I'm guessing that bidders were asking for more time, although it could be that they didn't receive any serious bids and extended the deadline in hopes of getting some.

The crane at 8th/Hope is basically up. I took a few pics I'll upload later this afternoon.

Speaking of 8th/Hope you can see it in this SuperBowl commercial as the horses go down Hope. This was shot around downtown 2 weeks ago.

I didn't have my camera with me, but they have begun installing the parklets on Spring St (between 6th and 7th by LA Cafe). I'll try and get over there later for a shot.

Just saw on Facebook that the opening ceremony will be this Thursday. Definitely going and snapping some photos at the event.

I was in SF last weekend and saw one of their parklets. Like the modern design and the bike rack on the end. It was cold and dreary out this particular morning so nobody was using it.

Prediction: the parklets will be a raging success, despite the fact that no one is going to ever use the stationary bikes in the LA Cafe parklet. The bikes will eventually be removed and replaced with seating.

Blossom Plaza May Break Ground This Year

If all works out, the eyesore Little Joe’s in Chinatown could soon disappear.

Officials with development firm Forest City last week said that they are targeting a mid-2013 groundbreaking for the long awaited Blossom Plaza project, which would rise on the site of the shuttered restaurant at 900 N. Broadway. Plans for the $90 million development call for about 240 market rate and affordable rental units, 20,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and a 175-space parking lot, as well as a public plaza that would connect Broadway to the Gold Line Station. The project has been in the works in one form or another for nearly a decade. In November 2011, the city entered into a negotiation agreement with Forest City to replace the original developer, Bond Companies, on the project, although a development deal still has not been signed. Forest City officials told Los Angeles Downtown News that they envision opening the project in 2015.

I wondered what was going on with the rundown bldg....the "golf" SRO bldg...next to the lot...whether anyone would buy it & the adjoining parking lot & fill them in with something decent.

^ those are the types of gaps that tend to be forgotten or overlooked unless a person is actually in the hood. I can't count the number of times I've gone to dt, started off feeling optimistic, then come away feeling let down after bumping into all the areas like what's shown in that pic. So it's a big relief that a devlpr will be doing to that location what was done to the block where the elleven, luma & evo towers were built.

however, I wonder if the ppl in the Eastern columbia bldg, with unobstructed views to the west, are necessarily happy that a new neighbor of several stories high is going up a block away? tough! they'll just have to learn to live with it.

What's wrong with the "golf" building? I'd rather have that than some 5 story cookie cutter development.

The Onni Group is looking to build two additional towers, one next door to 888 Olive and a second at Twelfth and Flower, near the Staples Center.

Drove my wife around DTLA, while out there last week. Though she does a lot of traveling, she was thoroughly impressed with downtown. And when she saw Angel's Flight she remarked, "Oh, that's so cute!"

She did make another comment, though, which I found interesting, being that she's an astute businesswoman. When we drove by the convention center, and she noted how vast it was, she asked, "But where are all the hotels ?"
