Hopefully I don't jinx anything... but with Patch's comeback and Subban signing his contract we have a full and 100% healthy team for the first time since 2008 I think.

We're actually pretty good 5 on 5 this year as well.

Wednesday night: Bruins vs Habs... for first place in the division. Going to be a good one.

Damn Boston always needing shootouts to win.

BTW-Carey Price is now at 6 consecutive wins... he only lost the opening game (2-1). Leads the league in wins.

^ I look forward to the Habs/Bruins matchup this week...I try to never miss those. My favourite NHL rivalry and ironically between two teams I like (though I root for the Habs in this case)

The Penguins looked like their usual selves yesterday after an inconsistent start to the season. Crosby and Kunitz are connecting extremely well and I think any doubts about Crosby's health can soon be tossed away.

Seeing as the Flames have basically replaced the entire team in the past 2-3 years, with the exception of a couple of guys, and they've replaced the entire management and coaching teams...

I think the next person who uses the word "rebuild" needs to consult a dictionary. If you mean "tank for the next 6 years to collect draft picks", or "get rid of one of the top goaltenders in the league", or "shit-can your perennial 30 goal scorer" - then why don't you just say so?

This team has done nothing BUT rebuild. Constantly. Over and over again. But hey, keeping Horcoff and Hemsky around forever (who produce much less than Iginla and Kipper) somehow lets the Oilers claim they're "rebuilding"?

Is it only a rebuild when the pieces you keep are sub-par?

Also: this season is a total joke. Even CBC is calling out the refs on their ridiculous calls. Montreal did not deserve 2 points last night - at the very least that game should have gone to OT.

I believe the league changed the rules so that you can't perennially tank and collect draft picks like Edmonton did.

That would be typical of the NHL - Pittsburgh does it, all is OK. A Canadian team does it, and we need to change the rules.

The rules only changed slightly. Making all non playoff teams eligible for the first overall pick means that the last overall team wil have a ~30% chance of getting the first overall pick instead of a ~50% chance.

Before, every team not making the playoffs could win the lottery, but could only move up a maximum of four spots. If any of the teams ranked 6-14th (last) won the lottery, the last place team would still get the first overall pick.

Edmonton would not have drafted first in the 2011 draft (Nugent Hopkins) if the new system was in place for that draft, as New Jersey won the lottery.

That's actually pretty substantial when you think about it.

Also (from memory) - didn't Edmonton get at least one of their #1 picks by moving up in the lottery? So they didn't have to "tank" EVERY year....

I do agree with the above comment about Pittsburgh. Very insightful.

I like that change. Too bad they didn't make that change three years ago, maybe the Flames would have had a first overall pick.

Edmonton finished last in 09/10, and won the lottery, keeping them first overall.

They finished last in 10/11, and New Jersey won the lottery, moving from 8th pick to 4th pick - Edmonton retained the first overall pick.

They finished 29th (second last) in 11/12, and won the lottery, moving them up to first. Had Columbus won the lottery, though, both teams may have still ended up with the same player picked as it happened.

Yea, it was really bad especially last game.

I don't think 2 horrible calls make a good a good one but Plekanec got a BS penalty 24 seconds into the game which Ottawa scored on. That should never have been a goal in the first place.

The goal in the third should have counted but the game might have still ended 2-1 anyway.

Refs deciding the outcome of games...what else is new? Some games the refs did a total BS job against my team, and the next they do the opposite. And meanwhile, the world keeps on turning.
