What floor are you on? 4th or 5th? I have a similar (but lower!) view from ours on the Mezzanine.

This project is going to be visible from many different spots. I can see the crane from my balcony in Park Vic (14th floor).

It is great to see them pouring concrete.

By the time all the downtown office construction is complete or well underway then hopefully it will be needed, especially with the planned offshore oil exploration and future shipbuilding activity. In the near future, if provincial taxes could be lowered, and the first contract legislation could be modified so that it is a better compromise between labour and business then maybe additional business could be lured to the city; the manufacturing sector has been suffering under the NDP reign.

Manufacturing has been suffering across the entire nation, under Conservative reign -- but I'm not about to blame Harper for pushing those jobs out of Canada. It's difficult to compete with extremely cheap Indian and Chinese labour, where there are fewer laws granting public safeties. It's misguided to blame any one political party, especially without elaborating on specifics.

The economy has become, perhaps, too globalised?...

Eeeek I'm so stoked! Turning an absolute dumpster-fire of a building into a gleaming gem

The TD Building is arguably the ugliest of the bank towers but the renderings look nicer than any of the others, and when it's done it will be similar in size to 1801 Hollis.

Another thing to consider is that this building is in a prominent location on Barrington. If the new reno were combined with a new building across the street (unfortunately the lot is owned by the province) it would have a huge impact on the area.

I just noticed in your picture that the first reinforced concrete columns have been poured. Hopefully, we will see even more significant progress in the near future. Thanks again for your pictorial updates.

The CIBC building next door could also use a facelift!

I would place the Maritime Centre/BellAliant Tower at a higher priority.

I actually sorta like BellAliant as it is. if we're going to keep any of our brutalist towers (none of which are especially great) it's the best one. Honest to God, I actually prefer it to 1801 Hollis or Purdy's Wharf.

This tower "should" look 10 times better than 1801 when complete. If they could do that well in 1985 than surely 30 Years later we could only improve! *reminds himself where he lives...

I took this quick snap last Saturday.

I would have loved for this building to have a glowing rim of TD green at the top when finished.

Someone123 is the building to the right the one you have referred to as being owned by the Gov't? I really wish something could be done with it. What a location for a tall slender condo tower. It would really complement the new TD when finished if right color and material used. It would have a great view of Parade Square.

Yes. The old buildings on that site were demolished around 1990 for an office building that was never built. The city bought the lot in the 90's and then gave it to the province in a land swap deal. The province also owns the Dennis Building.

I would like to see a mixed-use development incorporating the Dennis building but that doesn't seem very likely as long as the province owns it. I'm worried that they'll either ignore this lot for another 20 years or throw up an office building with no storefronts on Barrington.

Yeah, that building to the right is the Dennis Building, which is a government building, and the parking lot behind it is also owned by the government. They've done a few studies and consultations on how to revedelop the area, though I don't think anything firm has come down the pipe. Eventually.

The Dennis Building itself isn't a registered heritage property, but it should be—it has a ridiculously storied history, has been owned by mayors and lieutenant governors, and is one of the oldest, largest, grandest historical buildings in the province, at least from the outside. (Apparently it kind of 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 inside.) There's ample room to build on the vacant lots around it, to the west and south.
