Jaume Plensa's incredible, 2.5 story tall statue, The Wonderland!

Not sure if it was the statue or the fact it was Friday, but more people were smiling than not.

That photo is incredible. It looks great today and it's gonna look even better in 50 years from now. The human skull gives us a lot to speculate about what it really means. Like when you're standing in front of a painting, left wondering what the artist wanted us to see.

^Gee, at least Windsor has plenty of space to build future buildings and towers, by the looks of it!

One thing that really sticks out here is the absolute lack of glass buildings (except for the rising V). If one were to compare this vista to one taken in say, 1985, it would look almost the same. You can really see how old the city is.

How does that view show how old the city is? Most of those buildings are from the 60s and 70s. Just because that view didn't change in nearly 30 years doesn't really show how old the city is.

An update on a handful of our ongoing projects.

First up, the "big" boys, by our standards: 351 and Fortis Place. They're finally starting to extend our skyline much further to the West (left):

The curtain wall on 351 is almost complete, while the glass is starting to climb Fortis Place as well:

The parkade is still, visually, a big problem - but it's not going to be as bad as you might fear. It's still going to be obviously and unfortunately an above-ground parkade, but here is a reminder what the finished product will look like:

And here is Canada's ugliest provincial legislature - but you can't blame us. We didn't join until 1949 so we just threw up a typical office building in the 1950s. The project here is an extensive (despite appearances) re-clad - replacing the brick, clear glass, and green panels with brick, blue glass, and blue panels:

And a view of the new residences under construction at the Memorial University of Newfoundland:

90% of the buildings in that photo date from the 1850's to 1980's and show few modern efforts in design. In that respect, it makes the city look old.
