According to the Downtown News, Onni currently has plans for two other towers in downtown. One would also be built on Olive street. The other is at 1212 Flower, adjacent to Pico Station. Currently the site of this office building:

That building isn't bad actually. Though it is sitting pretty much alone on very prime land.

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES -Some big changes could be coming to Pershing Square. Councilman José Huizar, whose 14th District includes the park at 532 S. Olive St., said that officials with Anschutz Entertainment Group have agreed to provide $700,000 in seed money to help “re-envision” the park.

Huizar said the city will put together a task force that will be charged with coming up with potential changes to the much-maligned park. “Everything is on the table,” Huizar said. “If that task force comes back and says we want to scratch the thing and start anew, so be it, or we just want to change a few parts. Everything is on the table.”
There is no timeline yet on the project or details on how the seed money will be used, Huizar said.

The idea was sparked by problems that arose at Pershing Square last year after members of the Occupy L.A. movement made the place their headquarters. Some camped out at the park, prompting complains from stakeholders including merchants at the weekly farmers market, who said they being harassed by members of the group.

What possible changes could they make if the idea "was sparked by problems" by Occupy LA? I suppose almost anything would be a step up from what's there now.

I agree. There should be an active pursuit to better the square in terms of good urban design, not necessarily a reaction to a problem like that. But, this is huge news - Pershing Square definitely is in the position to establish itself as the most prominent public space in this area and the ability to really transform the surrounding area with an increased demand for quality development and new businesses.

Agreed. I'd like to see an at grade, simpler park. A few paths, some trees, a nice more classical fountain and some open space for performance. Something more timeless that won't look dated another 10 years down the road because it's chasing a trend.

Also Coco Laurent added some really nice (but subtle) signage to their awnings. Picture from this afternoon as well.

Meanwhile on Broadway.....Figaro has yet to add any sort of signage...I hope they get a chance to before ........ ............................

I like that Coco Laurent signage. Looking forward to trying Figaro (and Bar Ama, of course!) one of these nights - has anybody been?

I've been. Figaro isn't very good. Bar Ama looks amazing, but no one is my family likes Tex Mex. Also try to go to Alma, which is supposed to be incredible.

Any redesign of Pershing Square should be simple, simple, simple. I'm thinking something like Bryant Park in NYC. Enough with the bells and whistles!

I've heard about Alma. I'll be sure to give them both a try. Thanks!

I love all of the simple parks and squares in Berlin. They are so commonplace and ubiquitious that you don't see the over-the-top and lavish, often concrete-heavy parks you see here. Because parks are so rare here, whenever we do get one, we go over-the-top. In Berlin, parks are, like, on every corner. You never have to search for one, make it a destination, or plan a special day to the park. London is similar in this regard.
