If we have architects that are very particular about the appearance of glass, I see that as a good thing.

I hope we can get more projects from Handel in the future in Chicago. Anything but more SCB. Handel works in a similar style and does comparable projects, but seemingly with more variation.

removed the old sidewalk protection, and took a lane off of Wacker yesterday, now deliveries start - hard to stage much on the 1st floor.

Pouring a new base for the crane (along Wacker side)

From 2008 - lower level - will have to check out how the mounting is continued down here

From 2007 - the crane mounting is in the middle of the left side, lower wacker is on the level of the door on the L side (garage ramp).

Working on the cantilever for the crane

These footings are tied into the side of the column.

Think it is the column on the Left in this shot from today (where the sign is mounted). Lower Wacker

the steel frame will be concrete reinforced (better for compression)

7:30am - crain tipping.

Very gentle, barely felt it, then I looked up to see the boom and cable springing back and forth - must have been put down just right.

You know, this may not be Waterview, but it'll be a perfect addition to the river cluster. It's got a nice balance between bold and minimal, and it sure as hell beats a concrete shell.

IMO, Waterview was never a great design. It had awesome height, but that's about it.

The new one isn't an aia award winner, but I think I see it as a lot less gimmicky than you. One thing's for sure though, any such 'gimmickiness' will definitely be mitigated standing next to 77 W. Wacker in the skyline! Now, that's 'gimmicktry'!

If we're only going to have boxes, they might as well has some variation, even if it's a bit gimmicky. The staggered balconies of 235 W Van Buren are part of a trend, but its execution was pretty novel, making it a great building. I don't think 111 will be that interesting, but they are being pretty selective with the glass, so it will probably turn out good.
