Speaking of Mobile's appearances on film, the movie October Baby is filmed extensively in the Mobile area. There are many scenes from downtown and Dauphin Island in the film. There are a few scenes from Birmingham and Huntsville but I was thrilled to see Mobile figure prominently in what is turning out to be a popular movie.

I'll definitely need to check that movie out. Crossing my fingers it's on (or will be on) Netflix...

Just saw a list from MAA re: projects to be undertaken at the Mobile Regional Airport- there's some definite needs in here:

along with several other projects including tarmac and taxiway rehab

also a FIDS update, which was especially needed

Does anyone know what's going on with the building next to the Crecent Theater ? I noticed that the wall on the side of that building is no longer missing lol. I saw in fill and construction there last week.

There is a plan to expand Mobile's entertainment district and I hope St. Louis street is included, there so much potential there.And also the At&t building downtown should be turned into a hotel or apartments that building has about 8 floors.

Here's the current proposed map (in blue), I've included the portion that is the controversial section being debated now (in red). This is a great idea, but I think that the city should connect the two areas.

I couldn't find anything on 210 Dauphin besides this listing from a year ago:

I think that location would be perfect for a downtown Italian eatery/ bar. And do any of you know when the Mardi Gra park will take development?

...it would be nice to have some Italian fare on LoDa.

I haven't heard anything on the Mardi Gras park recently.

Bad news for most of Alabama, but good news for Mobile:

Huntsville's average hourly wage is higher than Mobile's, at $23.78. But average wages in the Rocket City area have fallen 6.5 percent after inflation over the past two years, the report says.

At $21.81, average hourly wages in Birmingham-Hoover are actually higher than they were two years ago in nominal terms -- that is, without controlling for inflation. But because prices have risen in general over the past two years, workers in the Birmingham-Hoover area on average have less purchasing power today. Real wages in Birmingham-Hoover have fallen 1 percent, according to the report.

I was downtown just last weekend to catch some parades and, boy, the downtown area really is coming up. My wife and I walked around the area all afternoon Saturday and I'm very excited with what I saw. Dauphin St has really filled out westward. Conti St is looking better and better. I saw more empty facades occupied. I noticed Dauphin's success is slowly infecting the streets to the north. I enjoyed several beautiful murals. I'm encouraged with how the area is maturing well with the established businesses that have been around for quite a while. I have been a smidge discouraged with hearing about the string of short-lived businesses lately, but seeing the businesses/establishments that weathered through the years and developing a robust reputation brightened my prognosis for the area. They are the ones that are helping build the momentum towards an increasingly vibrant downtown where new businesses will have improved odds of finding firm rooting for lasting success. In addition, what RSA has done with our downtown makes a huge difference. I swelled with pride while enjoying the light show from the skyscrapers during Mardi Gras and imaging out-of-town drivers' dazzled reactions from both directions of I-10. This alone probably helps a few more travelers decide to visit Mobile on their next vacation.

Can't wait to see Van Antwerp revamped and shining, Maritime Museum completed and delighting visitors, cruise ships gracing the waterfront, and Mardi Gras park established for year-round revelry.

We do have quite long way to go before seeing the other streets bustling like Dauphin St, but from the looks of things, we are slowly and SURELY getting there. The momentum is there and building. The only way to go from here is FORWARD.

Hmmm I hope its the Gayfers building lol.With the addition of Mardi Gra dowtown Mobile has been vibrant and full of energy.And the Mardi Gra light show has given the skyline an edge.

The museum is coming along slowly but we are getting there.Building on a swamp has challenges you know,lol.I can't wait to see the finish product with the illuminated pedestrian bridge.
