This is a great project and I hope we will see more towers on that side of the station. Skytrain stations need density around them, not just on either side.

It's all in support of that thick transfer slab, so every bit helps.

If you estimate the concrete strength at ~25MPa and assume the column is ~ 6" by 6" = .023 m^2. Then that column can take ~57000 kg or 57 tonnes vertically before it fails.

The curvature of the lens/photo makes the building look like it's leaning... lol.

And also. I agree with dleung on this one... those columns look more thin than what I'd normally anticipate for a high-rise.

Those columns look a lot bigger than 6 inches by 6 inches.

If you look really closely, you'll see that those thin "columns" are actually "hangers" suspending the mezzanine from the ceiling, not from underneath - freeing up space on the ground floor (lobby or amenity).

Unless the mezzanine is fully enclosed by glass, it may end up looking a bit weird.

You two fail at physics. The thickness of the transfer slab only makes it easier to span greater distances without intermediary support. And that's not how the strength of a concrete column is calculated... just eyeballing the slenderness ratio should be enough to debunk that
