I only hope they go with white like the render suggest on the residential towers. We have way too much blue green in the area.

DP is in for what will be Edmonton's tallest residential condo, Encore, at 39 storeys right smack dab in the middle of the downtown. Should come in around 124-130m.

These were early renderings and it just went to design council so we should expect a more polished version. The podium requires a masonry treatment of sorts to 'blend' in with the historic character of the area. Always controversial to say the least, but the architect behind this is one of the best in Edmonton so I have faith.

I like how the inset balconies and the fins at the top make it feel as though the sheer curtainwall facade is just one giant plate of glass.

They should be allowed to go all glass. Blending is overrated. Nice to see such densification in Edmonton.

All glass residential in our climate is NOT the way to go... 40-60% glazing is much better for a variety of reasons. The podium will only be partially masonry and done right will work nicely. Problem is, we have seen such HACKJOBS of this in the past often times.

There's just something wrong about it although I can't quite put my finger on it. The same applies with many other Edmonton towers. There's an awkwardness to them. Maybe these early Miami, Panama City inspirations simply aren't my cup of tea.

The side with the three columns of balconies does seem very commie-slabbish. An onslaught of balconies can make a building look cheap.

Beautiful building, Hamilton. Gorgeous.

A much grander scale of what I wish our Hilton proposal would become.

Also... I love the mix of old and new. Reminds me of MIX Condos here, as well as that new LeMarchant Road proposal (don't Google either of those or you'll laugh at me for comparing them to this)... as well as the Ritz in Montreal.
