You're not alone.

A less ambitious development that actually could see the light of day is much better than a grandiose dead project.

I just think it's interesting that Related is going gangbusters in NYC and Miami, went belly-up in Vegas and has been slogging through wet concrete in LA. Maybe it's just city-specific.

Ditto.

This project has been delayed for too long. Time to build!

I always hated that this project included a major mall. A mall! That was probably what was holding this project back- a forty story tower and nineteen story hotel shouldn't cost a billion dollars. Downtown needs a mall like I need cancer- it doesn't. Can't wait to see what the new version looks like.

Just drove by the Courtyard Marriott. A ton of activity right now. Couldn't get a shot due to all the traffic, but it's safe to say that there are plenty of workers working on it right now, and I actually saw the crane moving. It's looking pretty tall already. Around the 4th-5th floor?

It seems like Michael Maltzan Architecture recently updated their website, which also has a new page for the Star Apartments going up in Skid Row. It has a few renderings which haven't been posted here that give a better idea of how it fits into its block, and what the revamped ground floor will look like. Can't wait to see it when it's done!

The LATimes is gonna have an article tomorrow talking about the Arts District. Should be interesting to see what they have to say about it.

I should hope so, since they're already running behind schedule....at least based on reports over 2 to 3 months ago that groundbreaking was just around the corner.

filling up the huge parking lot north of 8th st, between grand & olive, is long overdue.

carmel partners

a forumer mentioned a few wks ago that the parking lot where the other major new apt proj in the hood, the tower at 9th & olive, is planned to rise was closed down....nothing has been said about that location since then, so I'm guessing that was a false start.

The parking lot hasn't been completely closed off, as there are still cars in there every day. Seems to be workers for the adjacent building using it.

It hasn't functioned as paid public parking since the new year, though. The gates are kept closed and there are no attendants staffing the entrances and exits.

Sandbags? I'll wait until I see actual digging. I don't appreciate being teased like I have been with LA Central, Park Fifth, the Glass Tower, and most recently the Onni project.

I like the potentially useless updates, but you do have a good point, especially regarding that lot. A large part of that lot gets closed frequently for private events like film shoot parking and catering. Because of that and I think either repaving or re-striping there were a couple of project start false alarms several years ago.

The Onni tower groundbreaking seemed imminent when they closed part of the parking lot and put up a few signs, yet weeks later still nothing. LA Central came so, so close to breaking ground and pulled the plug.

Just spoke to the security guard at the lot and he said that he just got word that they are supposed to start demolishing the lot tomorrow. lets see what happens.

Edit: also, the lot is empty and the gates are locked. its never been that way...

Just reporting what i see

Again, I won't get my hopes up until I see actual digging.
