I agree about the current state of the mall, though, it is really bad, probably the worst in the city right now. I just wish owners and developers would think a little bigger and more about creating and nurturing a community than just a quick buck and ample parking.
Abbotsfield Mall?

In terms of depressing malls, though Capilano and Abbotsfield are both pretty bad.

Good to hear Corner 1 is underway.. It got some Cornerstones funding so I'd expect to see it move fairly expediciously.

Worried about the north elevation though...

Potentially we could see the following high rises under construction in and around the DT at the same time:
Vision on the Corner
Pearl
Beth Shalom
Mayfair North
Hilton
Dub's 107 building
Ultima
Edgewater
Corner 1

Plus
RAM
Arena

Yup... not to mention a few others that are percolating. 3 years from now will be interesting.

Is it fair to say that this is the most construction activity since the early 80's?

The last boom filled in a lot of vacant holes but didn't create many visible changes, seems like this time around will be very different. It's that 5-7 years lag from Calgary thing again.

^ As someone who's lived in Cowntown, I notice that lag is pretty consistent. Not a bad thing really.. it's just how things roll.

Yeah it's pretty busy out there. Almost makes me wish I was back in construction. Almost.

I think they were going for a different market on Founders' Ridge.

Plus.. seeing as they've already done site prep, they're 1000% further ahead than FR ever got! I think Cornerstones is buying 20 units in the building (I think that's what I read anyways) so that'll give it a little head start.

Also, as I noted on C2E, they are most definitely excavating both tower sites at Edgewater. The 1st Lowrise is probably 75% done, the 2nd lowrise has stalled at grade, but they' ve been working fast & furious on the tower sites.

As someone who has been in the field for the better part of the last Boom cycles it's nice to be on the consulting side now.

Was at the Winspear last night for the ESO. There was a large display with renderings for the proposed tower behind the Winspear. I have to say I'm really excited about it and hope it goes ahead. It would transform the area, in my opinion. Sorry, I didn't have a camera. Does anyone know the status of this proposal? Are they close? Or is it just a pipe dream?

Doesn't look all that different from what was on display yesterday. So, what can you tell us about the prospects for this?

For me, I think what this could do is make 102 Ave East of the Winspear less like a dark tunnel of horror and more lively and bright. No longer feeling like a place to avoid if you value your life.

^the south and east first 2 storeys should be very bright and transparent.

It was an RFEI so as to get a feel for what/who/when. I don't expect an RFP anytime soon, but then again I do know that they want more space in the nearer term.

I posted those renderings here a few months ago. Looks pretty good. I believe the entire occupant would be FWCM, which is double awesome.

I took a couple of photos of the Pearl and Innovation Centre for Engineering earlier today. Enjoy.
