My pal Smokey on RF.com posted on that site an link from the city of Regina webpage of a 350 page PDF document that outlines pretty much everything regarding this project. Its an outstanding read, here is his post and the instructions on how to find it.

Go to this City of Regina page and find the Executive Committee meeting on January 16th. Beside that is a link to "packet" and that will load the PDF.

I've downloaded and read it now.

Any speculations on who the three companies that are going to qualify for purposals???

Turner Construction from the US is my best guess. http://www.turnerconstruction.com/experience/sports

Anyone else?

Dude, please spell check D:

But to answer your questions, my best guesses would be EllisDon -the guys who built the Rogers Centre-, Hunt Construction Group -Barclays Center in Brooklyn-, and PCL.

Someone posted in the General Development thread about Edmontons new arena /redevelopment being approved, it would be great to see one in that thread about Reginas now that it's officially been approved. If i knew more about posting pics and links I would.

PCL almost for sure. They did a lot of work for the costing of the Province's first design.

Is the preliminary design the one they showed last year? Or has the concept been altered a bit?

Cant seem to find he CTV late night video but they had Brent sojberg on there from the city the other night. He noted actually construction of the stadium wouldn't take place till 2014, but that you would see ground worked done on the site in 2013 including: demolishing of buildings, relocation of underground utilities, basically prepping the site.<<<Once i see some of that happen, i'll really start getting excited about this project!!!

Which buildings are to be demolished? Are they empty, unused buildings or are some in use right now?

The are the dilapidated buildings closer to the Elphinstone side like the "Jubilee Building". If they are used for something it's probably storage or rats nests. They won't be a loss.

I am guessing the Jubilee Building, the one beside it that used to house indoor soccer and the small building to the east that has an indoor skate park would be the ones demolished. Basically anything between the Elphinstone border to the park.

Edit: aww, beat me to it.

Your answer was a little more in depth though. Question answered in any case.

This would mean that the indoor skatepark will have to be relocated as well. I remember reading the Regina recreation plan (don't recall the actual name for it) about a year or two ago and it stated that the city wanted to build multiple new skateparks within the next 10 or 20 years.

On another note, I wonder how this will effect the exhibition.

Do they still use those buildings for soccer since the EventPlex was built?

My guess is the Roughriders would ask the CFL to have them play an away game during the Regina Ex. Or possibly the Ex could be moved to the Roughriders' off-week (which is usually in late August).

The Farm Progress Show and Agribition could also potentially impact Roughrider preseason and playoff games.

And to answer brithgob's question: no, all indoor soccer games are now played in the Eventplex.

Yes, I hope the city steps up and starts addressing these needs. Lots of kids skateboard/bmx/mtb and there isn't that many parks for them to do that type of riding. The old BMX track on 13th Ave. west of Lewvan is being renovated by volunteers and on donations of local businesses. The Douglas Park mtb trails are maintained by the local mtb clubs.

The City mulling over closing some inner city outdoor pools that are sorely needed in those communities causes my outlook to be a little south of optimistic on getting new skateparks anytime soon though. The parks and recreation budget seems to be very stretched as is.
