My favorite breakfast spot downtown is Eva, it's on 317 s main, or right around that address. I would love to see Main st become a foodie Mecca for Slc

Just a note, there is a third restaurant coming to CCC in the base of The Regent. While I understand your frustration about many of the food places disappearing around N. Temple and 300 W, they all were drive thru oriented, and to me that doesn't make a downtown flourish.

That isn't true. The KFC was actually a Harmon Cafe witch was one of the original KFC's. it was a bit more of a dine in style.. I don't even recall them having a drive thru. Denny's and dees did not do drive thru. The original taco time was not drive thru until they rebuilt on the corner after Denny's was torn down. The Greek shishkabob I don't remember being drive thru till they move further north and then eventually closed. Arctic circle was definitely a drive thru place

And yes all of those types of places can be a part of a robust flourishing down town environment... Have you ever been to San Fransisco? They even have burger kings and McDonald's down town... And they are packed. They are usually just styled a bit different without a drive thru.. In fact if a building is ever built where Carl's jr is I would love to see Carl's jr stay in the base of the building.. Minus the drive thru

And this isn't to say that we don't need more dine in places as well... But I think all of the places that you refer to as "drive thru" places made the area flourish a hell of a lot more then the parking lots that are there now :/

It was a robust area pre-triad center

I never thought I'd see anyone on this forum lament the loss of fast-food chains downtown. All those eateries 🞵🞵🞵🞵.

I'd love to see more local breakfast/brunch eateries downtown, like Eggs in the City, or Snooze (great eatery in Denver). Those chain breakfast food places are disgusting.

Personally, I think the egg stops at Finns (around 1300 S and 1100 E) I would LOVE it if they opened a downtown branch. The perfect location - That dilapidated eyesore on West Temple and 300 South. But I can only assume its owned by a land banker. And sadly never to be developed. It seems like an awesome location, right near both offices and condos.

My point was that they are better then nothing and certainly better then a parking lot.. And they were not ad huge of chains at the time,

The greek Shishkebab was not a fast food chain. They were a local greek place that was actually pretty good.. They made shish kebabs with lamb and it was really good.. First they were forced to move because of the triad.. Then they just closed when the city forced them out again for the half empty strip mall on 300 west and 600 north area.

Also.. You have to have a mixture of fast food and dine in, local and national, high class and regular.. After all people live in the area.. And just like any one... Sometimes they want dome taco bell

When they first announced the Gateway years ago, they said it was going to be an Entertainment district. So, I was surprised and bummed that it's just a mall.

Maybe the Gateway isn't the right place for such a district due to the residential buildings but I could see something like this being implemented somewhere in SLC, do you?

This doesn't include the coffee houses which have pastries or an egg sandwich.

None of the swimming pools have been filled in. They're still in there. Cool building; needs a lot of work!

I agree with the proposals for Gateway to be re-fashioned into something of an entertainment district. It would certainly give me more reason to go there! As it is now, I rarely travel to either of the downtown malls because they just don't have stores that I particularly care about.

Wow! I guess they really could build right across the street. There isn't a lot else going on right there, now that I think about it.. That kind of makes me wonder if that is a location that they are actually looking at. Anywho.. Work a petco/petsmart in to that idea and I might just be sold

Only one small problem with the proposal above - The Area south of Gateway is The Road Home homeless shelter on the West side of Rio Grande Street and is St. Vincent de Paul/ Wiegand Center on the the East side of the street.

I think the city would have moved these homeless areas a long time ago if they could. Unless someone came forward and rebuilt the homeless centers in another part of town, those centers aren't moving anytime soon.

With all of the development they want to do behind rio grand.. It might be worth wile to put moving that stuff in the budget... Perhaps they could convert an unused building further south

I don't think a 100% entertainment district is in order. There are a lot of residence in the area with a lot more apartments being being constructed. The area lacks certain amenities.... I think a second megaplex would really up the stakes as an entertainment distric.

I would rather see a trader joes then a Walgreens.. And I would rather see a bowling alley then an ace... I dont think it would be bad to have a small ace and petco somewhere in the gateway area. I would also like to see the new megaplex closer to CCC but if the operator insist on having it in that area... That seems like a good enough place
