I like what people have suggested in terms of turning it into a small-vendor, parisian-style area but I wonder if there's any kind of market for an entertainment district similar to Kansas City's Power and Light district:

Maybe the Gateway isn't the right place for such a district due to the residential buildings but I could see something like this being implemented somewhere in SLC, do you?

I hope this means that they will also be presenting the proposed highrise building associated with it. I've been dreaming about this. lol. It would be awesome if it was the new tallest. But, at the same time, if they go conservative with this tower to be able to encourage a quicker start on the tower at 100 south and state, I think I'ld be more inclined to go with that plan. And, I believe that tower on 100 south and state will be the new tallest and would fill in the gap between the new Harmons store and elsewhere.

My most hated vacant lot in SLC is the dirt lot on the west side of State and 6th south, next to the State Room. Does anyone know if anything is ever going to happen there?

The thing that gives me hope that it might be actual renderings is that they are planning a big to-do on February 20th with the mayor and media and everything.

In regards to the 'rolling glass doors' to the winter garden, i think this could be cool. There has been discussion on this forum of what a winter garden is and most people have been skeptical that it will be more than just the lobby of the theater. I envision these rolling glass doors to be big and basically open the area up to be an outside plaza extending out to main street when the weather is nice enough, and then closed when it's cold outside. Between this and the roof of city creek we are becoming quite the climate controlled area downtown

Not sure about the time frame. I think there might be some funding issues that has delay the groundbreaking. I really like this development and hope it starts soon.

Due to escalating construction costs for the proposed DA Building, the SL County Council has not yet agreed to fund the construction of the building. Hopefully Mayor McAdams and the County Council can find a resolution to the situation. It's unfortunate that they went in and demolished all of the structures before the construction of a new building was fully funded.

Here's a dumb question. Did SLC ever have cobblestone streets? Why don't we use them now at least in the downtow? Cost? I personally love them and know they last forever and are easy to repair. Just curious and please excuse me of my ignorance.

My guess as to why we don't is the plows would ruin them.

That would be my guess as well. They were hauling the snow away in dump trucks after this last storm..

Are there any plans in the pipeline for the old wasatch springs swiming facility? I would love to see the exterior of that building restored, relandscaped, and put to some good use... Was the swiming pool(s) filled in when it was used as the children's museum?

I second that. I love that old building and would love to see it restored and put back to its original use.

In some good news, it looks like the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control has backed off of their "no drinks before ordering" rule. And luckily, just in time for Sundance and the Outdoor Retailer. I am happy that they did an about face on this.

That's to bad.. I like to get some breakfast food over there sometimes... I wish we could get a freaking Denny's or something around here. There use to be a Denny's and a dees on north temple.. And something in the front of crossroads... All of the breakfast places have slowly been disappearing... It was nice having bayleaf while it lasted...

Come to think of it a ton of food places have disappeared from down town.. Just in the triad center area there use to be a Denny's, dees, KFC, Greek shishkabob, taco time, arctic circle (fast food express)... The triad center freaking destroyed the area... It drives me insane when I think about it.... The food selection at CCC is a bit disappointing on top of that. I wish they would have allocated more then 2 restaurant spaces (one of witch is 40+ a plate and not really much better then the Brazilian joint at gateway).... Hopefully we can get some more food places on main... People in this town must not like to eat
