What I fear if the Aboriginal Claim falls through, is that this area will turn into two things, big box crap, or more Tuxedo style properties, and Tuxedo, has expressed concern that they have no land to expand. To them I say tough luck, lots of area's are like this.
But what I do not want to see is the place lvl'd, as just before our troops moved the feds spent millions on those buildings , new windows, new insulation, new heat and water. I am talking about the two gorgous ones you always see with their great columns and the other one close to route 90, these should be turned into apartments for the area, we are low on them and this would be an EASY retrofit and goes with the plane of an urban living enviroment. They other I guess you can call industrial buildings, could be turned into business of sorts, not heavy equipment or trucking, but more like high tech ones. This creates jobs etc in the area. On the East side we have the nicest or oldest of the buildings, the one where the tanks used to be, and the old which is still used by the police and other services to store crap, but was the maitenance building, that one building should be a museum of sorts that reflects the long past of the Kap. The other has so much grass land behind it, it would be nice if that was left as a park, the area really has no green space, unless you want to claim the railway or ass park.
Then comes the arena, there is one sitting in all the buildings, it is the same design as every other one in the city, but in way better shape, seen it myself as of course the feds kept it up to par, unlike city owned ones. This should be used as a community center again.
And last but not least, is the old Gym and pool, what not let some interesting folks, say the YMCA renovate this place and take it over, hell let them have it for a $1. It is a good building still.
The land behind it, leave it alone, in fact if I remember correctly, this was deemed very close to still being tall grass prairie. So why not save this massive green space with bike paths, walks with interpertive stops along the way, the schools in the area would or could use it.
As for all that housing going to waste, and they are built well, been in them also. If it is to much darn trouble for the feds or the city to use them, then let people like Habitat use them, this is a win win, as it fills empty houses, gets low income people who want to work and own a home a chance to get one, and it brings in tax dollars and it also brings all the people back to the area.
But on the sad side I see the damn Super Store eyeing this all up as they are in a really bad spot tbh. But I definatly do not want to see this torn down only to be rebuilt in some god awfule way.
