The new 18-story tower to be built next door will have about 108 units totaling 424 beds. 715 new residents to ATL not to mention 17,000 square feet of commercial space. As a GSU Alum who lived at former GSU Village on North Ave & had to take MARTA or walk (each about a 20min commute) I would have loved to lived so close to campus...
Personally for me this is one of the most exciting new developments going on in Atlanta. It's excellent Downtown residential infill. From the renderings I can't see any parking deck at all. Which I think is a good thing. However according to their facebook page there will be parking, but you have to pay $30 a month for it. Most likely because parking will be very limited. So glad there is not a giant Skyhouse parking deck next to it.

Welker, principal of BNA and Clermont Hotel Partners, said “we are thrilled to have the chance to reimagine The Clermont as a great hotel. The property has all the right ingredients to become not only a destination boutique hotel for Atlanta, but for the Southeast.”

Seems the parking deck is obscured well behind that brown section on the front of the building. Thinking the pool is up there too.

I think it's funny that O.M. scaled back the Buckhead Atlanta project to "better fit the neighborhood", but so much time has passed that the area seems to be transforming into a place that would better fit with the original, larger Streets of Buckhead design.

Good point; especially when you view the site plan video:

Nation’s smallest Walmart opening at Ga. Tech

Earlier last month, Walmart signed a contract with Georgia Tech Auxiliary Services to establish a convenience store concept in the Tech Square space where Ribs n Blues previously existed.

“We were looking for something that was a non-food replacement when Ribs n Blues closed,” said Director of Auxiliary Services Rich Steele. “Walmart pharmacy was our number one target—there was a good connection with Georgia Tech—the CEO of Walmart had been on campus speaking a year and a half ago. Shortly after that, we started conversations with Walmart just about the idea [of having Walmart on Campus]…and to start some early negotiations. Those negotiations started 11 months ago in February 2012.”

The current 2500-square foot location will be smaller than the only other Walmart on Campus, also referred to as Walmart pharmacy, which is located in Fayetteville’s University of Arkansas. The Walmart on Campus located in Arkansas serves a variety of items, such as “ramen noodles, power bars, frozen pizza and soda,” reports the CSP Daily News.

“They will carry some electronics, peripherals, a few devices. They may sell some iPods too,” Steele said. “They will also sell a lot of grocery items… frozen foods, fresh foods,… grab-and-go and beverage items. It’s like a mini CVS.”

The design on ONE 12 is pretty horrible. Why is there a that doubled up portion between the 6th & 7th floors? I don't expect a modern day masterpiece, and this is definitely an improvement from the Piedmont apartments, but this isn't making the grade in my books.

This said, I sit on the DRC and the design they are going with is INFINITELY better than the original design, which featured a "brow," one sold color stucco for the entire complex (including the existing building), and pretty abysmal ground floor treatment a la the GSU dorms on Piedmont. This may not be perfect but it's much better than the status quo would have been.

GSU has been building terrible to mediocre buildings downtown for decades now. The school deserves praise for not abandoning the central city and for saving a couple of noteworthy structures but I wish, just once, they would build something that didn't look like a warehouse or like it came out of Communist-era Moscow. Even their signage is boring.

is that doubled up portion there to relate to the older brick building (its cornice) in the middle?

My money says the lower part of the corner tower and the entire brown middle section is parking. The double line would mark where the parking deck stops and the residential tower starts.

Some people can't be happy with anything...criticizing Georgia State for it's buildings? It's a state-supported university for crying out loud, and one that is THE major catalyst over the past decade in downtown Atlanta. BE THANKFUL for the "terrible to mediocre buildings" that are keeping downtown in the game.

Well, I guess I am out-voted.

The concensus is that Geprgia State has indeed built 1 (ONE) nice building in 100 years. I stand corrected. (Although I still place Petit on the mediocre side of the scale.)
