I believe MPG has sold it's remaining ownership stakes in Cal Plaza 1 and 2 as of the end of 2012. Probably explains why Cal Plaza 2 is receiving much better marketing as of late.

Across the street, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Grand Avenue Rental Tower is today.

It looks interesting that they'll be building out that plaza between the Broad and the new tower, a semi-elevated park I guess.

A similar rendering to the ones we've seen so far.

Doesn't look quite as organic as the earlier renderings, but somehow I like these better.

These are all nice changes/additions and everything, but they're still nothing substantial. Where are the real game-changing projects? I'm getting tired of waiting.

Forgive me if I'm wrong Pink Floyd, but I count 20 floors in that rendering. Is it just an error or did they add another floor?

I agree. These are nice starting points but I really want The Grand (whatever form it takes) become a true winner. DTLA needs a iconic and world class piece of architecture. Something on par with Beekman Place in NYC.

Were almost there, i think. There are numerous variables that could ignite the "real" boom, but I think ultimate "domino" that everyone is waiting to tip over is Farmers Field, the sale of AEG, and what franchise will be moving here. Once that happens, the momentum will really take off.

Hmm. I count 20 as well. Perhaps it's an old rendering or just an error.

Commercial Exchange Building

I just noticed last night that the Commercial Exchange Building (aka Italian Kitchen) across from Colori Kitchen on 8th has huge for sale signs posted all over the building. Let's hope this lifeless, empty building is rehabbed and brought back to life soon.

It has a lot of interest and i know of at least one very interested buyer. It will be purchased soon and turned into either a boutique hotel or into apartments. The people that have toured it have said its in pretty good condition

Remember grand ave is raised a story, and the ground floor on that street is really level #2

In a recent press release about the 9th/olive building (http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/...-at-9th-and-olive-streets-184376351.html) there was this other tidbit, "The real estate firm recently announced that it has received approval to begin working on converting the Gerry Building in the city's Fashion District into 72 commercial condominium units (a total of 122,213 square feet of office and retail space)."
Now, another building getting renovated in DTLA is not exactly groundbreaking news, however for someone who loves streamline moderne architecture this is great news. It's really one of the best examples of streamline moderne in the country.

Wow, great find. Beautiful building indeed. It will be great to get some sort of different retail in that area - something to activate the street a bit along with the renovated building.

NFL in downtown Los Angeles really lost momentum after the announcement of the sale of AEG. I wouldn't be surprised if the new owner has no interest in a downtown stadium if for no reason no one other than AEG has so far. I'm already prepared for the stadium not to happen and if it does that's good as well.
