Sutton Place is a ugly concrete monstrosity. But each to their own tastes. Somebody once had to like it to authorise its construction.

So there is hope for this project after all! It seems like this is just a concept and a detailed design will be created after the land is re-zoned. Also there will be a public hearing announced soon so we'll have to stay tuned

Ya, a city report means that an application has been submitted and it's much more of a tangible proposal then just a news leak which is all it was last week.

Indeed. Greater Hong Kong (includes Shenzen) and it's sister city Guangzhou have a population of about 50 Million between the two of them (they're about 100km apart) and growing very rapidly; several million per year.

London is to Toronto as Toronto is to the Hong Kong region.

I don't think Canadians can even imagine such a place until you've travelled from one end to the other; and soon by metro.

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing Shanghai yet but it's my understanding that despite much larger boundaries it has a smaller footprint economically.

Well, to be fair, they weren't talking about population, they were talking about skyscrapers. Skyscrapers that have yet to be built... namely... One Yonge.

obviously, a number of those toronto towers won't be built, but still, the number of scrapers proposed is sort of mind-blowing.

Despite the hordes of mainlanders you find in Hong Kong's luxury goods stores on any given day, I don't think there is such a thing as "Greater Hong Kong" (well, at least not yet). The territory still functions as a self-sufficient entity and crossing the border into China is essentially the same as entering another country. There are obviously many more economic ties to the mainland these days, with most of Hong Kong's manufacturing having moved to Shenzen, but you don't see the type of cross border integration that a true metropolitan area would have.

So I would say that Hong Kong and Toronto are comparable in terms of population, but not much else. The built form of the 2 cities is vastly different.

I doubt they will be digging down five levels for remediation. It doesn't make sense to install a pile wall to the desired depth and rip it out to build a deeper one for the parking levels.

No permits have come up on the city's website for the office tower.
