For that Surrey HQ building, I think what is going on is an optical illusion where the floor layout is not orthogonal.

The Ft. Erie one looks like someone shopped off the top 12 or so floors of a 40-50 story condo tower and stuck them on that lowrise podium. The design looks a bit odd for such a short building.

Major LOL at that Hamilton proposal, they finally propose nice buildings that could modernize the skyline.......and they put them as far away from the skyline as they can.

I swear sometimes I think Hamilton is the biggest troll city out there.

yep. when I first heard of that project I immediatly googled its location, and do my dismay, it was 5k away from downtown, with a farmers field across the street..

Is hamilton on the cusp of an Edmonton-style nice-lookin' architecture revival? Let's hope so, because this is a city that deserves style and substance.

As for the Fort Erie one, whatever...as they say.

I lived in Hamilton for a few years so I'm quite familiar with the area. I agree that Upper James is a great location to start building highrises, but I still think that Hamilton first needs to take care of those horrid downtown parking lots. There are some nice historic buildings downtown and a few modern skyscrapers would give it a much needed variety. Hamilton is not yet at a point where it has to look for another CBD.

I just see it as not having your priorities straight. This picture kinda explains how I feel:

Why does it need a CBD? Finance and such isn't the main employment source, but multiple apartment nodes works nicely.

Sorry, I should've used a different word. What I meant was that projects like these should be located downtown first. I can see the developer is trying to take advantage of the new LRT.
