I guess the point I am making is that there are a lot of residential options right next to (and inside) downtown Calgary. Its a great place to be.

Hmmm, maybe Regina and Saskatoon combined is a more realistic assertion. The photos you posted of all 4 cities seem to really minimize the impact of their skylines. The one of Winnipeg misses a large section of its skyline (Osborne Village), the one of Saskatoon cuts out half the skyline, the one of Regina cuts it off at both ends, and the one of Ottawa isn't visible (on my computer at least?).

The Beltline and Mission are great places to live of course. Did anyone claim the contrary? I even loved living in Bankview (an urban neighbourhood outside of the downtown, close to a historic town centre called Marda Loop), it was a really cool up and coming place for sure. Lots of neighbourhoods around town are going through a renaissance right now, it's nice to see.

Then next week, it'll be "The Beltline is bigger than downtown Toronto"


Then next month we'll informed that the Beltline competes with the likes of Shanghai, or Sao Paulo.

I lived in the Beltline for three years. It was nice, good central location with lots of ammenities.

The way kw5150 puts it across though it's some sort of urban mecca. Seriously... tone down the boosterism a bit dude. Nobody's buying it.

HAHA!! That is funny dude! The thing is, before I moved to the Calgary or the beltline, I never realized how much are the beltline covered and how many different condos there were. If you drive by, you really dont notice.

The Beltline has many more buildings than Saskatoon and Regina combined.

I prefer to love the city Im in so I apologize if I sound like a Calgary nut....lol. I dont get bored here...ever.

He wasn't mocking the Beltline dude, he was mocking your assertions of the Beltline being larger than the downtowns of 4 cities combined, one of those cities having a more populous metropolitan area than Calgary. Don't mistake this for claiming that Ottawa's downtown/entertainment/bar area is bigger or better than the Beltline, it isn't. But the Beltline is maybe half of what all those cities combined would be. It's almost like you think just because I'm not Calgary's biggest fan that means I'm anti-Calgary. I like it a lot here except for a few aspects about the gay life, I'm just realistic about what the city is. We don't need to be making outlandish superiority claims. Everyone that has been to the Beltline knows how fun it is and how awesome the bars/restaurants are, the ones who haven't can't really have an opinion, having never experienced it.

I think it's safe to say Calgary's Metro is bigger than Ottawa's as the census doesn't include Okotoks or High River, the Calgary region is listed as 1.278 million on Wikipedia using the 2011 census. Maybe this isn't the right thread for this, but does Ottawa's CMA include Gatineau and Hull? if not, then Ottawa wins for sure. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calgary_Region#Calgary_Regional_Partnership

Please compare this photo to the beltline photos posted previously.

I suggest that some of the Calgarians on this thread (particularly the one that posted the Ottawa+Regina+Sask+Quebec comment) get their heads out of their ass and realize that Ottawa is basically the same size as Calgary, just as dense, growing, and a very urban place to live. Calgary should work on the sea of parking lots and train tracks in the heart of your city and we'll keep aspiring to be more like the beltline.
