Here's a render for St. John's that includes under construction, proposed, and rumoured developments. We don't know what the rumoured developments will be exactly but have a good idea of height.

also on water street it will look and feel the same as now (most likely busier)

Look at how this is actually just the water front .. but it will have a big impact on skyline and the overall image of the city

And that picture doesn't extend far enough west (left) to show Deacon, another major, approved tower.

Wow! What's the tallest one in the image? If it is built, it would be the first true skyscraper (IMO) in St. John's!

It looks like Purdy's Wharf copy and pasted on to a skyline of St. John's.

The tallest one on our radar is a rumored 23 story tower which will be announced in late February-early March. The tallest we've ever seen built downtown is 13 stories so this will be a massive project, the biggest and tallest building in our history, if it comes to fruition.

The sad reality is that in St. John's there is major NIMBYism- a vocal minority that has stalled destroyed any possible development here for 25 years. It was a huge struggle to even get a 6 story hotel approved a few months ago. 23 stories is a massive project, but according to an inside source, the to-be-proposed building is beautiful. It will all have to do with the public opinion. If the public feels it's time we build up and grow, it will get built but historically developments are squashed before they even get off the ground here. (ex: two years ago a 15 story proposal was withdrawn by a company because of public outcry)

One good thing about a huge proposal in St. john's is that it creates a perfect time for other companies to submit their proposals. With one major project in the public eye, other "smaller" proposals often get pushed through and approved without much friction.

Realistically, I cannot see this 23 story tower being accepted in st. john's. I would love to believe otherwise but historically, it just won't happen.

It's election year in St. John's and the public opinion is everything. We have the choice to finally elect a pro-development council, or live in the past with the council we currently have. With 2-3 rumoured "mega-projects" by St. john's standards, this year is certainly going to be exciting so stay tuned for more updated information and pray that they get approved

this render does not show the design of the proposals. The designs of the Purdy's Wharf building and and the building next to the fortis building (the white one on the right) have not been released yet, right now we only know the a approximate heights of the buildings.

This is really more of a conceptual rendering

Yes! And in St. John's the people tend to be extremely friendly -- so it seems to be the best of both worlds there

Thanks for all the hard work. It really puts into perspective the amount of change that is coming to Metrowown. By the end of this latest boom Metrotown may finally shed its suburban feel.

I did a drive down the gardener yesterday from the west end heading east. It's crazy how impressive Toronto is starting to look. As an outsider visiting TO for the first time, I can see how people would be impressed. Toronto looks like a big league city. That curtain wall has formed with the insane new condo development and based on current construction, it looks to only get more dramatic over the next 7 years. I am proud to live in/near TO. It's not a perfect city by no means but every year it keeps getting better. And the future looks bright.

It is. As Townie mentioned, Jeddy simply copied/pasted in buildings that are approximately the same height as what's being proposed here.

We do know, however, that the building represented by Purdy's Wharf is going to look similar to King's Landing (is that the name?). I'm not sure if it'll be similar to the iconic tower or the regular buildings, probably the regular.

Oh, they are perfectly fine. You'd find Halifax a very welcoming city, period.

I had some unique challenges you wouldn't face, but even mine were from a very small minority. I'd add the city, like Toronto, is especially friendly if you come from a place that is larger and objectively more impressive. Then you'll encounter less of the... patronizing.

I came from a small town called Amherst over 15 years ago and I didn't/don't find people patronizing. Although to be fair, it seems like half the people here are either from NFLD, Cape B, or some other small place so there's a lot of small town warmth.

Here is another conceptual render of St. John's done by Architype. A few developments in this picture are only rumours and due to be proposed later this year. Again, we don't know the official designs of these projects but we are fairly certain of the heights.

All of the proposals are "on the radar" so to speak, except one. The 20 story glass tower to the right of the black building on the waterfront. That is currently Atlantic Place, an eyesore you guys might recognize from the "Ugly Canada" thread. While nothing is "on the radar" yet, the structure was built to support 20 stories, and only 9 were ever built. I am confident that there will be a proposal in the coming years to add the remaining floors to this building, hopefully with a design similar to the one pictured!

So while this is not anywhere near an "official" look into the future, I just thought I would share this to show the direction we are headed with this development boom here in St. John's. It's very exciting

(Credit for the render goes to Architype)

I'm surprised more oil companies aren't vying to put in large regional headquarters in St. John's. Hmmm

It's probably because they're not allowed to put large signs on top of their buildings here.
