It doesn't go with the look and feel of the rest of Peel Plaza.
I'm hoping once its complete it will look interesting in the overall look of the area. I like the original design, not sure why they switched.

It is very disappointing to say the least. That parking garage is in a position that is seen from many high traffic areas of the city and will be an eye sore. It will be an embarrassment.

I think you're jumping to conclusions a bit before it's even finished.

They chose that orange facade over the colorful row house one?? Yikes! I can't say it looks very nice, but maybe it will look better in person.

In St. John's we have an eyesore of a parking garage as well; Atlantic Place. From the render, I would the orange garage over this any day!

Although, the mayor mentioned a development about the garage that will beautify and humanize the area to be announced in a few weeks. Rumor is that Groupe Germaine is going to reclad the garage and build a hotel on top of it (and there is another rumored 23 story tower a few doors down! Sorry, that was off topic but I am excited about it so I though I would share )

We will have to wait and see. Good luck with your parking garage Saint John! I hope it turns out better than the renders! Happy new year!

What would a pipeline from Alberta mean to Saint John?

I agree.. People need to calm down and at least see the finished product.

I think it could turn out very well, I like the colours and that they have some relief and dimension to them (some colours are more flush with the wall than others, and so forth). It will also diminish the visual impact of the cage-like window openings, which can only be a positive.

A pipeline to Saint John carrying western crude will cut the refinery 's dependence on "Brent Sea" priced crude it currently receives by ship at Canaport. At $40 less per barrel, western crude will ensure the long term viability of the refinery and save it from closure like the impending closure of Dartmouth refinery. It can then evenly compete with their competitor refiners in the Gulf Coast of Texas and Louisiana. It will also lower energy costs in the maritimes, which is good for economic activity. It can also be shipped from Saint John unrefined increasing shipping traffic. There would be no opposition to tankers like in BC because they have been shipping fuels from Saint John for over 50 years.
Of course it will mean more profit for Irving, which they historically reinvest a portion in other development activity. Does that mean a second refinery? I don't see it at this point as demand for fuel in Irving's marketplace has peaked and is declining. I think a smaller expansion at the current refinery would be more likely if they found a new market for their fuels.

Would Canaport still be up and running? What about jobs?

If you are referring to Canaport LNG located at Canaport, I heard nothing about it closing. There may be opportunities to make it an exporting terminal instead of an importing terminal. The actual Canaport facility for unloading crude into monobuoy and into pipeline doesn't employ many. I assume that would be the facility used to export unrefined crude if that's part of the plan as Courtney Bay can only handle smaller vessels.

Not sure what jobs pipeline will bring unless it means an expansion of industry.
I wonder what would happen to the 200 local jobs created by bringing in North Dakota oil by rail.

There's an article in today's TJ discussing Repsol having Canaport LNG for sale for the purposes of export-oriented development.

I prefer the rowhouse fascade for that parking garage. The current proposal won't age well at all. In fact, it's already outdated, really, and hasn't even been built yet.

I love DizzyEdge's suggestion as well. You really do have a fantastic logo. You couldn't go wrong blowing it up.

You could still texture the background as well, perhaps instead of rowhouses, make representations of famous buildings in the city. But have them all painted white so your giant logo really pops.

I sincerely hope that Saint John can use this new growth and diversify further. The city could be a transportation hub and should lobby for the East- West highway. Continued growth of the port has been fantastic under Jim Quinn. I would love to see Saint John have more institutions uptown— invest in information. Saint John needs more post secondary institutions and move away from JUST heavy industry.

White isn't a good colour to use (see roof of Harbour Station).
Too late anyhow, I'm sure the materials are already made and ready to go.
Design might work in the end.

My main concern is actually the large concrete side - a perfect blank canvass for graffiti punks - and that is what the real eyesore is going to be.
