You are correct regarding Maynards Block. It is not part of the SEFC Official Development Plan, and therefore exempt from the requirement to connect to SEFC neighbourhood energy utility and to meet or exceed LEED Silver equivalency. Aquilini chose to meet LEED Silver equivalency but balked at connecting to the NEU, despite it being across the street.

The Cambie Corridor buildings are required to be able to connect to a district heating system but with the exception of Marine Gateway, and presumably Oakridge, no forthcoming projects are going to be on a district heating system upon construction.

Also, why don't they turn the property between Quebec St. and The Village into a grassy field and get the tax break?

On a different note, the street car should be built like the french do before all the development is done (see the images of the outer ends of tramway line 2 in Montpellier) and paid for (the upfront cost) half city and half local properties like L.A. is doing:

...as local residents voted in favor of a plan to tax area property owners up to $85 million to fund the project.

Sounds like the Arts Club, Bard on the Beach and Pacific Theatre are looking at a partnership to take the Wall Centre space originally intended for the Playhouse:

Lido excavation coming along. Newly installed crane base is visible. Burger King/Onni's Block 100 development site to the left, Central development to the right (north).

More Lido.

Onni combination Central & Block 100 sales centre now open on the Central side. Glass roof of McDonald's building to the north is visible.

Meccanica has started excavation.

More Meccanica. Grey building is sales office in background.

West development has started excavation.

More West excavation. White building in background is auto repair shop (still operating) and the West sales centre. This building will be eventually demolished as well as it is part of the West development which stretches the entirety of this block.

From the front page of the Vancouver Sun:

Quote:
Battle brews over Craft Beer restaurant and bar planned for heritage building

By Tiffany Crawford, Vancouver Sun

Opposition is brewing to a restaurant and pub proposed for the historic Salt Building in Southeast False Creek that is expected to open next summer.

Calgary-based Craft Beer Market, Restaurant and Bar has plans to open a new 14,000-square-foot, 350-seat restaurant in the building, making it the city’s biggest taproom.

But a few residents that live in the surrounding community of the Village on False Creek, formerly the Olympic Village, are worried another bar in the square is unsuitable for an area that is fast becoming a family neighbourhood with lots of young children.

Ed Safarik, whose ninth-floor apartment faces the square and the Salt Building said a group of residents is upset at a lack of public consultation about what he calls another “mega pub” in the square.

He argues there’s already a massive bar in the plaza — the 12,000-square-foot Tap and Barrel — and that another one will amp up the noise levels and create traffic congestion.

“We have a big bar there now and that’s never full,” said Safarik, who moved to the Village in May 2011 after he and his wife sold their house in Kerrisdale.

“I don’t think the Village Square should be another Granville Street entertainment district,” he said, adding he’s worried more pubs will attract heavy drinkers and drug users.

“A mega pub like this wouldn’t be allowed in any other Vancouver neighbourhood. We are at risk of having our Southeast False Creek waterfront being dominated by drinking establishments.”
etc., etc...

I wonder if he bothered to investigate the intended use of the restored Salt building before moving in?

Heroic update, entheosfog. Thanks for all the work.

Out of curiosity, did you note the progress of the (former) Playhouse theatre and office space in the middle of Wall Centre False Creek?

Great updates, thanks.

Foundry is the one with the orange base, the one next door (heritage brick) is The Exchange (former telephone exchange).

James looks good.
I wonder if the canopies were designed to cover up the patchy-looking aggregate concrete around the doorways?

Strange how the Social Housing buildings often look the best of the bunch.

WRT Wall Centre False Creek - when will archtects and designers realize that (warm) biege and gray do not match!!!!
It's especially bad in that last WCFC shot because the biege painted concrete does not wrap around the corner, but meets the gray mullions on the corner itself.

Wow, thank you for your absolutely fantastic updates on this and many other threads, entheosfog!

Maynards Block turned out to be much better than I was fearing during construction. The main building has a chunky, layered look to it that we don't often get in this city, and the smaller building is pretty handsome for a box. Does anyone remember what the restored heritage building will be used for?

Pinnacle is still a massive , to be expected for any building which has to rely on panels with random patterns and colors to provide any discernible modicum of visual interest. I'm looking forward to having one side of it being blocked by The One, but it sadly might not turn out to be much of an improvement given the renderings and history of the developer
