Best Canadian Building(s) of 2012

In you opinion, what is the best new building completed in Canada in 2012 for:
  • The Country
  • Your city, town, or province, or other places.

Please post links, your photos, credited photos, or just give a description or a mention of what you think is worthy of this title.

This applies only to buildings completed in 2012, not those still under construction, etc. Any building can be included, highrises, lowrises etc.

If you don't know what was built, this diagram might help as a place to start but obviously it doesn't include most lowrise buildings:
http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?searchID=57469620

Thius is not meant to create city vs. city arguments, but you get to "vote" with your post.

I like the idea!

It might also be interesting to have categories for:

Office
Residential 150m+
Residential 100-150m
Residential Under 100m
Hotel
Mixed-use
Renovation
Infrastructure (Transit projects, roads, squares, parks, etc)

Ok, you can choose whatever categories you want. I was trying to keep it simple.
More categories would make it more inclusive, but more complicated at the same time.

So I would suggest to stick with the main categories I suggested, but add some others if you would like.

For Halifax: the Vic

I guess this would be considered "mixed-use".

Outside of Halifax: the Bow (office, Calgary). I thought this was completed before 2012 though.

The Bow overall. For Toronto I'd have to choose the new 4 Seasons.

Calgary's other $1.5 billion new building - the South Health Campus which should be a candidate for best new institutional buildings. I like the pixellated facade of prairie, Rockies, and big sky. It is a massive structure and can be seen for miles.

Canada: The Bow, Calgary (or, if it's completed, Shangri-La in Toronto. Sorry, I have some idea what's on the go but I've no idea what's technically completed this year)

St. John's: I have no idea. We didn't complete much of significance this year.

I nominate the bridgepoint health centre as the best institutional building.

For a residential midrise infill project, I think Le Ligouri turned out well.

Love the midrise infill and, especially, the Ritz. It's the basic style I love for St. John's (old fascade with cool glass additions) but on a Montreal scale. Great projects!

For Montreal, my vote goes to the new Canadian art pavillon of the Montreal Fine Arts museum. Architects: Provencher/Roy (Montreal)

Honorable mention:

2-22 (aedifica architects, Montreal)

And the Maison Symphonique (Diamond Schmitt Architects, Toronto)
