I call it the 'ski jump'... I asked the same thing, he said he's keeping it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Canadian Tires are owned by the corporation and not franchises, so if it's getting sold then Canadian Tire is moving out?

There were rumours about this for a while. They are moving towards bigger box stores, and the downtown one was already much smaller.

I prefer my neighbourhood hardware stores on James St, but crappy tire is open till 9 and on sundays and it does save my — once in a while. It would be a loss if they left downtown.

Canadian Tires are franchises I'm pretty sure.

DRESCHEL: ‘Full force’ for second Lister phase

Quote:
the project will include a large residential tower directly behind Lister and a prominent commercial presence immediately next door to it on James Street North where the historic Thomas building used to be.

The new commercial frontage will feature the heritage façade of the Thomas building which LIUNA preserved prior to demolishing the decrepit interior.

Quote:
Mancinelli notes that the façade of the 1855 Thomas building has been catalogued and numbered and will be painstakingly replaced piece by piece on the new structure.

Quote:
the city has reportedly received multiple offers from prospective tenants interested in leasing commercial space in the Lister itself.

Delfina Duarte of the city’s public works departments expects a shortlist will be presented to council early in 2013.

The city is looking for tenants that suit the character of the historic building and provide a strong retail presence. According to Duarte, the proponents are all local.

There are two storefront blocks available: 850 square feet and 3,450 square feet.

“There’s definitely interest in the two locations,’ said Duarte. “We’re just working through the mechanics of doing some leasehold improvements on the site and what they might look like.”

Duarte says some capital investment issues need to be addressed. She can’t go into the details because they’re still in play.

Canadian Tire is a franchise with individual owners. That store on Main was the second store that Canadian Tire opened, the first being in Toronto. It was further West on Main originally, across from where Effort Trust is located. The original building is still there.

Very cool trivia!

Do you mean this building? http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=main+st+ham...u0SedhhLT7FKA&cbp=12,356.03,,0,6.04&z=19

I remember getting my very first baseball glove at the Canadian Tire on Ottawa and Dunsmure directly across form the first Tim Horton's. That building is still standing too.

For the birds?

Holy smokes... I really unintentionally ruffled some feathers in the Backyard Chicken debate on https://raisethehammer.org/article/1727/...urban_bias_trumped_evidence-based_policy.

I am very progressive minded, but wow did people support their chickens!

One of the more unintentionally hilarious comments on that thread: "But the reality is there are still a fair number of chickens living here illegally".

Your observation about house-cleaning abilities likely did not help your case!

Spit-roasting for you, sir.

That site has never failed at righteous indignation. I just went through that thread and someone took the time to transpose one of your posts from here into the site to trash you personally. Unbelievable!

Although I do support backyard chicken can we move on to more pressing issues?

Indeed, and your thought should be expressed loud and clear on Raise The Hammer.

My thoughts exactly... The timing to bring it up really is not good in the midst of safety, health problems, eccetera, commonly argued in this city's massive issue currently of rental licencing. There is no thought of process, only voices of hurt feelings trying to turn the debate back around. It's concerning local vocal activists can garner support this way, not that it is anything new. Please just hear all sides though.

I don't really like this argument... We can't just put the smaller things on hold because there are also bigger issues.

I still like RTH in general, but I try to avoid the comment section.

It's their cause for the week. One thing about RTH, you know what side will be on the losing end of most issues and causes they support, them. They always seem to be on the losing side of issues.

As for backyard chickens, my idiot neighbour had them along with a rooster for a couple of years until one day they all died. For some reason the rest of the people in the area didn't appreciate the sound of a rooster at six in the morning. Bylaw enforcement was no help.

Hamilton has really big problems, which have been documented and identified. Backyard chicken pets is not on the list.
