From what I've heard via my wife (who's work involves running some programs out of the current Shaganappi library) they are looking forward to the move to the new building. Sounds like the actual move should be happening in the spring now.

Obviously not every single person is going to be happy with the WLRT, but I bet the vast majority are, so why focus on the few loudmouths who feel the need to complain?

Weird - I haven't read this Sun article. Literally every single news story I've seen has been insanely positive. Even Global, which often likes to take the downer view, has called the WLRT a smashing success. Everyone they interview seems extremely pleased.

Calgary is very pro transit, with a hugely protransit Mayor with insane approval numbers. Trying to get traction on antitransit would be hard.

I took the route after work yesterday, it looks awesome. The only concerns are:
- the whole 'inbound/outbound' wayfinding. At Westbrook one sign says "Inbound / City Centre", but the out just says "Outbound". I realize it's not that tough to figure out outbound once you see the other sign, but could be a touch confusing
- Westbrook is really cold. Outside was -5 and it felt colder at track level, especially with the constant light breeze. I'm not sure what the solution is when you have short large tunnels leading to the outdoors, but unlike other stations there's no heated waiting area, unless you wait for the train 2 stories up at the front doors.

Railway companies pay property taxes on all property they own, including the rail lines themselves (i.e. not just yards). 🞵🞵🞵 are you 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 talking about? I haven't even been to Edmonton since 2002. I was talking about how Kyle seems to have become soured on Calgary more than when he lived here, though I know I'm probably reading too much into his comments but the by-election discussion did get to me.

I never discuss Edmonton just to discuss Edmonton.

So, yeah, let's talk about the SE LRT some more.

Regarding the Westbrook station sign behind the column, I think this would be an excellent place to spend a bit of the art money that ends up being allocated to the project. Put a nice set of stainless steel letters above the support column. It would be functional, and look better than the generic white on blue sign blocked by the column right now.

I haven't had a chance to ride the line yet, but I would like to thank everyone for their photos, videos, and discussion about it. I'd like to take my son (and wife, if she wants) for a little field trip sometime very soon. But in the mean time, it has been great seeing and reading all of your impressions so far.
