Makes sense that if you wanted to improve Earth you'd start by taking out Regina. /greetingsfromwinnipeg

Officially as someone from Regina I am appalled and outraged at your glib comment. Unofficially - good one!

Hey everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster.

Inside word is that SGI is going to be announcing soon the construction of a new corporate HQ office tower in Regina. That's all the details I have, but I would presume they would be vacating the current building. They've had some issues in the past decade (wind making it sway, panels falling off, as well as a massive watermain break/flood of about 18 floors a month or two ago), so I don't know if the building would be gutted or rented out, or what.

Just thought I'd pass on the news!

^^ Thanks for the post. Always great to see new faces! Im very interested in what happenes here. They would have to presumable be going into the 12 the and rose tower if not building there own tower maybe?? I would like to see a high-rise along sask drive near albet street, next to the post office

Other news, regina gets its first Tutti Frutti Frozen yogurt location. This is the 2nd one in sask, suprisingly there first was in MoosJaw?? link to webiste

I don't know if they'll be using existing space or building a new tower. They've already exceeded their current space years ago, and have expanded to multiple buildings around Regina, so presumably any new facility would have to be 20-30% larger than their current building. The only other factoid I've heard is that it's a 4-year project.

If they used the 12th and Rose proposed building, there will be 280,000 square feet available for office use. I don't know what the C. M. Fines building currently contains, does anyone? Also, has anyone else already expressed interest in the 12th and Rose building for space? Personally I'd also love to see a different, taller tower, similar to the current SGI HQ. Sask Dr and Albert would be interesting, but that intersection is already horrible, I can't see them building something near their unless the whole intersection was redone and widened in some way, which seems impossible to do.

Massive shopping complex proposed for Dundurn

Not directly related to Regina construction, but what a great project to have between Regina and Saskatoon!

Also exciting to note the interview with paul hill on CTV. He hopes to see harvard 4 ,5 and 6 get built and he would like to see them built b4 the next 20years goes by. It will be exciting times in regina as long we have the hills!!!
It'll sure be interesting as to where Harvards V and VI end up being built. I've always believed that any would-be new SGI Building ought to be built on that vacant lot which is kitty-corner to where SGI is presently situated.

I understand it's creating jobs locally if that shopping centre gets built, but we do not need more Chinese Plastic to feed the Wal-Marts of this world. I wish there was more of a focus on quality Canadian made goods. Apple plans on manufacturing at home, while we propose a made in China child labour mega strip mall.

President says cost of relocating staff during upgrades is reason to consider move

Reported by Sarah Mills

The black and bronze SGI tower is one of the more iconic buildings in Regina's downtown, but the Crown is considering selling it and moving to a newly built high-rise elsewhere.

SGI posted a request for ‘expressions of interest’ to look for potential buyers and builders for a head office project on the government of Saskatchewan Tenders website.

The building is only 33 years old, but SGI President Andrew Cartmell claims while it is structurally safe the building needs upgrades.

“The mechanical systems, the windows and the curtain wall, the plumbing and electrical systems,” Cartmell listed what needs to be updated.

He confirms that they don't know how much all this will cost, but says it will mean an added expense of relocating all the staff while the work is underway. He argues it makes sense to consider building from scratch.

“We’re either looking at a capital expense to look at a new building operation, or we’re looking at higher operating costs at the existing one,” Cartmell explained.

He also assured people that no decision has been made and any plans are just in the early stages. Cartmell insists any money spent will not impact rates.

Harvard Developments Inc. says it already has its eye on putting in a proposal.

"I'm sure there will be lots of parties looking at it and certainly we will as well," said Harvard's Paul Hill.

Right now Hill says he's still becoming familiar of what exactly SGI is seeking.

Not sure if this was posted but the Glencore take over of Viterra finally got the last approval. The delays were related to Canada's mixed messages and slow decision making with the Nexen and Progress Energy buyouts by Asian government owned companies. Hopefully Glencore lives up to its promise and grows the office. I do know that a lot of projects were put on hold when the takeover was announced and have heard that some are gonna get fired up again, meaning more jobs. Good news for the city. Credit LP.

If SGI is selling their building(tower), I would assume they are selling that eyesore of a parkade across the street. The one west of their building(tower) that is connected to the Cornwall parkade behind their own tower.
