How would you like to see something like this next to Temple Square?

This is the 2000' tall Abraj Al-Brait tower in Mecca, Saudi Arabia next to the mosque that all the Muslims around the world flock to.
Can anyone say "lofty and spatious building"? Just kidding. Some of you will get that. IMO, I'm not sure what to think of it. Sorry for the somewhat off-topic stuff lately. I try to make my posts related. There's just not a lot of news lately.

So that's where our gasoline money goes too. That thing puts Big Ben to shame.
But no really I wish SLC would think big like this. ( Maybe not THAT big, but to have some kind of a big/tall landmark would be nice. )

That building is both mind-blowing and yet very undesirable. It looks like something a hobbit would have to sneak through in Middle Earth.

That's a fascinating abomination. If I were Muslim, I think I'd be outraged at something so enormous adjacent to my holiest site. It's so out of scale and insane. Holy crap. What were they thinking?

While the exterior appearance could use some tweaking, I like the massing. I think the idea of surrounding the holiest of holy spaces with a sort of barricade is cool. I think doing the same thing with temple square would give it an awesome feel. It would be neat if they lined West Temple with high-rises facing Temple Square like they have done on South Temple.

Haha that's exactly what it looks like. The eye of Sauron. I wonder if Tolkien was inspired by the Middle East.

Mecca is an interesting place. Its development patterns are so very similar to that of a Sim City 4 city - you know, random high-rises next to cliffs, isolated areas due to terrain. There are certain areas of the city almost entirely accessible via tunnels. It's rather crazy.

Speaking of photos, can some one PM me and help me figure out the picture posting on this forum? I know it's been said many times before, but I can really be dumb about this sort of thing. I live downtown and regularly take my camera with me, and I can start posting some photo updates if someone can hold my hand on this.
Also, I wanted to start a thread under the city photos too.
