Just out of curiosity, will the glass on 1 wtc look more similar to that of 7 wtc once it's cleaned and such? I've always admired how reflective 7 wtc was, so it would be really cool if it was. The same question applies for 4 wtc. Thanks in advance for anyone who knows the answer.

Judging from the recent images we can now see why the glass has been going up at a limited pace (about two hours worth of installing a day for the last 5 months). They were clearly not finished with fireproofing the mechanical floors (for whatever reason) and have only recently begun fireproofing again. You can see in the recent photos that the tarps are back up just above where the glass is currently and fireproofing is underway once again.

Also, we can now understand why the black netting has not been risen yet as well. Once fireproofing is completed, curtain wall installation should return to its former pace.

I know it is a national monument and whatnot, but I always think it would be amazing if Governors island had a bridge to the south tip of Manhattan (maybe a modern white suspension bridge; and was covered in skyscrapers. And at least one supertall of course.

A guy can dream.

Yep, too bad it's not at quite the same angle it was at before. Nice to have it back in any case.

New on the Mini Skyline

I'd be the first to admit that this column isn't the place to go for breaking news. But I'm pleased to report that I have some today: The 1 World Trade Center models are in! You know those miniatures of the Empire State Building you can find at Times Square souvenir shops—some with tiny King Kongs clinging to their antennas—or proud, greenish plastic Statue of Liberties, her gold torch-bearing arm raised high?

Now you can be the first kid on your block to own a 1 World Trade Center, defiant symbol of this city and our nation's resilience. Actually, the second person, if you live on my block. I got the first one last week—at least I'm claiming it's the first and I'll require notarized documentation to prove me wrong—when I happened to be passing a souvenir shop on Fifth Avenue in the 20s. I strolled in and discovered several of them amid a thicket of Empire States and Chrysler Buildings.

I already know what you're thinking: What kind of dork has lived in New York City his whole life and still frequents souvenir shops (let alone gets excited by their contents). I'll tell you what kind of dork: a proud, Big Apple loving, no apologies, never say Chicago or L.A., kind of dork.

I was heartened to discover that Mr. Tutus, who came to the U.S. from Istanbul in the 1980s and is celebrating his business's 25th anniversary, shares my passion for building models. He said that he'd been carrying the 1 World Trade Centers for a couple of weeks. They're only about 4 inches high, made of plastic, and retail for $6.99. "A new company made them," he stated, adding, if I understood correctly, that his normal high-quality, meticulous, attention-to-detail, model suppliers haven't yet entered the game because they haven't gotten authorization, licensing rights, the specs, or something like that.

"Do they have to get the release from the Port Authority?" the merchant asked. Unfortunately, I had no idea.

...For all the cheapness of its execution, my 1 World Trade succeeds. It somehow manages to capture the structure's monumental essence. My family agrees.
