Agreed...a person can't just throw a comment like that on here about potential news.

Waterclosets.

News will hopefully come soon, after my lunch meeting today I've found it may not be as soon as tomorrow. Ooops! Either way, it's interesting stuff.

Yeah Saturday isn't usually a big day for announcements. Now to pay for your sins you must tell us what the news is...

New pro-football stadiums in Canada

Interesting article in The Globe and Mail:

"WINNIPEG CFL FANS FIRST IN LINE TO ENJOY BUILDING BOOM"

There is a building boom taking place in the Canadian Football League.

CFL fans in four Canadian cities are looking forward to shiny new stadiums, packed with goodies that will make watching football more enjoyable and more expensive...

Was just wandering if anyone knows when we can expect to see some finalized plans for the new stadium? I'm assuming that we gotta be close to seeing something fairly soon if they want to start construction next year.

I was also just looking at the preliminary plans. I wonder if it might be a good idea to build a couple pedestrian sky-bridges? One crossing Elphinstone, by the parking lots. I also think one crossing Victoria and train tracks, leading directly into Confederation Park would be great!

I wouldn't expect anything soon. The RFP for this P2 project (Design-Build, Finance, but not maintain) has yet to be issued. After that you can anticpate a number of months for firms to respond to the RFP. After the selection process takes place and the project awarded, then the detailed design will begin. I'd be very surprised to see any dirt being moved in 2013.

That's just my jaded opinion, based on many years of seeing projects develop. It's extremely rare to see a project come together quicker than anticipated. I'm also very interested to see how the RFP proponents will be constrained by the preliminary design that was unveiled a couple of months ago. I think that issuance of that potential design did the project no favours. The final design will be primarily driven by cost and, in my opinion, the polycarbonate pantheon has established unrealistic expectations.

^that exact thing happened in winnipeg.....fanciful sketches came out and everyone fell in love with the idea of a big roof protecting the seats....the roof was the cause of huge cost overruns but it was politically impossible to remove it....the government sucked it up and choked out a ton more money.

when architects are hired, they will not be bound by the sketches previously released.

I beleive you are correct about any dirt being moved in 2013. If I recall correctly the current plan is to start construction in late 2013, but that would likely be demolition of the existing buildings. Full on construction is not likely to start until 2014 sometime. We will see renders in 2013 though, I am not convinced they can't produce something similar to the concept design. I think the Winnipeg comparison some people throw around is a bit unfair, in part because it had a much smaller budget to begin with. I don't expect an exact replica but something similar. I guess time will tell..
