Oh wow, I had no idea this building was coming down. Obviously the building wasn't anything special and I do hope this new building looks good when it is finished.

That's pretty exciting about the GBD project.. Block 227 is directly in front of my apartment, and will ruin my view of the Fremont Bridge. We must stop this abomination in its tracks now.

This reminds me of a story about a building in NYC years ago where these people had a great view of Central Park, then Trump built a tower that blocked their view and put up a banner that said "If you lived here you would have a view of Central Park." That was back in the day before being a tv entertainer and outright loon.

FYI, the founding architect for Lever Architecture did the exterior design for the De Young Museum in SF when he worked at Herzog de Meuron. Had no idea - would imagine the building envelope for this project to be highly detailed for a residential building.

I asked a friend in the know about the LRS banner out front. He said that they had nothing to do with the design, that the only thing they did were construction documents. A relief, but kind of annoying that one of the shittiest firms in the city is obviously trying to get some credit for the building in the eye of the public.

As I understand it, Lever Architecture actually lease space from LRS, and have their office in the same space as LRS. LRS also do the production information for Lever's projects.

"Only thing they did were [construction] documents" is not an insignificant thing. The amount of technical knowledge required to get a building like this built is actually fairly large. While I agree that LRS are guilty of putting out some very mediocre designs, if they are doing the construction documents, they have every right to have a signboard out on the site.

You are right, I was overly harsh out of bitterness. Construction documents certainly are worth "some credit" and more. Still, they had little to do with the creative aspect of the design (from what I hear); indeed the renderings look nothing like the typical LRS product. I at least hope that Lever gets their own sign up asap so that it doesn't look like LRS deserves all the credit...

How do you all feel about starting a North Pearl thread? It seems like there is a ton going on and I'm starting to feel like I can't keep track of it all.

One thing I'd love to see, if anyone has the time and knowledge, is a map of all the projects over there that are in the conceptual/proposed/planning stages...

Downtown is definitely growing, I remember when I first moved to Portland and the Pearl basically stopped at Glisan, now the whole area is just a stretch of urban blocks.
