might get you excited if you were a lighting designer. dull architectually. horrible urban design. the streets around that behemoth are already so dead. that should help. hope it works out with all the tax money being spent.

A little disappointing. It's not terrible, just kinda... meh. Looks like there's gonna just be a wall all down the street which is too bad

dont get me started dude from the few pictures we see how can u determine what the entire exterior will look like.. I see glass wall finishing if anything woww what drawings are you people looking at

Please forgive me if this question has already been answered, but I searched SSP forums and a bunch of news media sites, and can't seem to find any real information about the hotel component.

I know there WILL be a hotel, and I DO recall seeing some early renders of a 15 story-ish grey and/or glass highrise proposal for the Convention Centre area.

I am curious to know a) if the render I described is still the general plan for the hotel, or if nobody's finalized what the hotel component will actually look like yet, and b) where the hell this hotel will actually be situated. Will it be built "on top" of the C.C. expansion just south of York Avenue, or perhaps on the other surface parking lot to the immediate east of the one I just mentioned?

I was quite excited for November 13th to roll around, because I thought we would learn all about both the C.C. AND the hotel, but today I can't seem to find any new info on the hotel component specifically. Am I alone in the dark? Any insight into my queries would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Help a fellow geek out so I can get some bloody sleep tonight!

Hmmm. Thanks, Andy6. I don't read the Sun, but today I did go to their site and clicked through a few photographs, and found no renders of the hotel. I just read the entire article now, and I guess we haven't really learned anything new.

I suppose if the C.C. is getting underway shortly then the hotel - whatever design is ultimately chosen - will necessarily be built on the land originally proposed (the lot just east of the new expansion). That's nice 'cause it means the second surface parking lot certainly has to go.

Anyways, thanks again for directing me back to the Sun's website. Forgive me for skipping most of the article the first time around; forcing myself to read that publication is generally a tortuous task I try to avoid.

People are hoping for a street presence that doesn't kill two more blocks of downtown. Massive buildings like this can make for huge dead areas at street level (just walk to the existing convention centre for an example).

The pictures don't immediately suggest that this will be handled for the expansion, which has a lot of people worried.

I don't think it is too much to desire to have the convention centre expansion have a great street presence, however it would be a very difficult thing to achieve, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

Those two blocks of downtown are already dead, so really this convention centre expansion can only make things better.

The downtown needs a convention centre. The convention centre is eating a giant surface parking lot, together with a new hotel. Not sure what the issue is here.

Exactly. You can't kill what's already dead, and I think that area qualifies as dead as it now stands. This will be a definite improvement over the current situation with regards to area usage.
